Summary: This position is responsible for developing; testing and implement new technologies for genetic traits related to livability welfare and feed conversion. The individual is expected to apply mechanical or biomechanical technologies in the form of projects available from the R D group and lead investigations independently by using all resources available from Cobb and the scientific community. Individual needs to be skilled at implementation of machine based technologies and computer interfaces associated with measuring animals performance and behavior. The person will need the ability to develop interfaces with scanners scales computers imaging equipment and software related to new trait development and measurement. Essential duties and responsibilities include understanding the scope and details of project goals focus on projects for timely completion design plan and cost assigned projects. This position will work with sponsored geneticist and equipment engineering companies in development of projects. Undertake development and implementation of special projects per R D assignments. A Primary project will be to investigate lifetime FCR stations including licensing engineering implementation testing costs etc. Work with vendors to purchase equipment for the projects. Identify and work with software companies or in-house specialists in data capture and implementation. Observes bird behavior and modify electronic equipment to maximize healthy feed behavior. Install and adjust transponders to insure accuracy of data collection. Examine feeding scales transponders functions entry and exit gate equipment to insure proper operation. Minimize culls on the new feeder system. Additional or secondary projects include developing EKG testing program including prototypes and data validation. Investigate EKG data and relationship to ascites pulmonary hypertension flip over and sudden death syndrome. Adapt CT scanning equipment and related software to bird welfare skeletal analyses. Develop system for measuring bird location and activity related to welfare growth mating maternity and egg production using transponders and or RFID technology. Observes condition of farm structures and equipment and arranges for need maintenance and repairs. Orders supplies as needed. Prepares summaries for bird feed behavior and equipment functions. Perform steps necessary to maintain bio security. Follows normal routine safety procedures and policies.
REQUIRMENTS:
- Education: Master of Science degree M.S. in Engineering with experience in agricultural applications is preferred.
- Experience: 4 plus years of engineering school and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Additional Skills: The successful candidate should have the following innate abilities: Read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals; communicate PowerPoint project progress regularly; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization; calculate and apply statistical analyses; calculate figures and amounts such as discounts interest commissions proportions percentages area circumference and volume; apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry; and work with geneticists and farm management provided per need basis.
- Travel: Travel frequently to various Cobb pedigree and research facilities to implement studied projects.
- Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not have direct reports.
