Catastrophe Risk Modeling Analyst – Research and Development
We will count on you to:
Help clients succeed by defining, designing, and delivering innovative, industry-specific solutions to effectively manage risk. Develop and adopt modeling suites and catastrophes analytics tools as underlying risks and exposure including flood and wildfire continue to evolve. Contribute to the development of the organization’s digital tools to deliver catastrophe risk insights to client and colleagues. Perform literature review, statistical data analysis, advanced analytics, develop algorithms and work closely with the organization’s digital developer. Attain broad knowledge of the science underlying the natural catastrophe models, including flood, hurricane, wildfire and earthquake. Support the catastrophe risk modeling and the client advisory teams by providing modeling advice on the application and interpretation of natural catastrophe risk models. Develop collateral material for client presentations and the organization’s perspectives on catastrophe risk modeling and trends in natural hazards, including climate change. Develop internal tools and algorithms for client-centric catastrophe risk analytics, including the development of visualization tools. Research scientific literature and provide advice on and develop algorithms embedded in the organization’s digital tools for colleagues and clients to explore catastrophe risk scenarios, exposure profiles, and model results. Validate vendor’s catastrophe risk modeling software, including RMS, AIR, CoreLogic and other prospect vendors for current and new model releases. Perform model suitability analyses and create guidance for application of models to non-standard cases. Develop model adjustments based on third-party catastrophe models.
What you need to have:
Must have Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Risk Management, or a related field plus three (3) years of experience in the position offered or a related position. Must have three (3) years of experience with: Performing comprehensive research on the natural catastrophe and application to risk analytics; Working with commercial catastrophe risk modeling software, including RMS, AIR, or CoreLogic; Applying science and engineering to insurance and risk management for hurricanes, floods, wildfire, earthquakes and other severe weather; Programming and database skills, including MATLAB, R, Python and SQL; Conducting statistical analysis and advanced analytics; GIS applications; and Writing professional scientific reports, creating presentation and presenting to technical and non-technical stakeholders. 10% national and international travel is required to various and unanticipated company and client sites.
