Midlands Connect have a brand-new role for a Business Planning and Compliance Manager to be responsible for driving the strategic business planning, corporate governance, performance and compliance functions. Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, you will play an instrumental role in developing the annual business plan, monitoring performance and reporting on programme and risk management.Managing a small team, you will drive a culture of continuous improvement, implementing robust processes and ensuring coordination of governance, programme, legal and procurement activities. This is an integral role for the organisation that will keep senior leadership and the Department for Transport informed on key projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget. This varied role is pivotal in order for stronger processes, reporting and an effective control of risk to be implemented.

What you will be doing- Work across the full breadth of the organisation’s wider leadership team to deliver the overall corporate business plan.
- Maintain a comprehensive overview of progress against the Annual Business Plan and any Multi-year Corporate Plan.
- Oversee regular KPI reporting and the communication of results to colleagues.
- Provide a comprehensive Governance framework, ensuring efficient and effective governance processes and up to date documentation.
- Carry out governance and risk assessed monitoring thematic reviews across the business.
- Provide strategic advice to the Corporate Services Director on all matters pertaining to governance.
- Lead the forward planning of business agendas and decisions going to the Strategic Board.
- Oversee and manage any procurement and framework ensuring procedural, procurement and legal compliance and strong working relationships with the accountable body.
- Ensure the deployment of rigorous, defined, consistent and documented assurance processes.
- Engender a supportive and constructive working culture.
What’s essential.- Experience of Project and Portfolio Management
- Demonstrable experience in establishing, managing and communicating partnership/programme governance.
- Experience in undertaking a compliance monitoring/assurance role ideally in the public sector.
- Experience in programme reporting and risk management.
- Experience in securing and providing legal and procurement advice to colleagues.
- Demonstrable experience in supporting board level meetings, setting agendas, producing briefing notes, collating papers, capturing minutes, actions and decisions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to be a persuasive and articulate communicator.
- Good verbal/written communication skills, including a professional telephone manner.
- Excellent team player.
