Seeking a highly skilled, experienced APP to join our growing cardiothoracic critical care team. This is a 24/7 service therefore this position requires days, nights, weekends and holidays in a rotation with the team.

In this position you will be responsible for examining, diagnosing and treating patients with complex cardiac, respiratory, and thoracic diseases under the direction of the attending physician. Our APPs play an integral role in the multidisciplinary care team by coordinating discussion, communication, and implementation of care plans with various consulting physician services, nursing, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, nutritional support, and other ancillary teams. In addition to these skills, you will be expected to have obtained competency in common ICU procedures, including but not limited to endotracheal intubation, arterial blood gas collection, arterial catheter line placement, central venous catheter line placement, temporary dialysis catheter line placement, transvenous pacemaker line placement, and pulmonary artery catheter line placement. 

Our cardiothoracic critical care providers are also the rapid response team for the hospital’s cardiac catheterization lab.

Our APPs are expected to manage endotracheal tubes, tracheostomy tubes, ventilators, pacemakers, sedation (MAC and Deep), interpret ABGs and VBGs as well as complex acid/base derangements, manage fluid balance goals with diuretics, hemodialysis, and CRRT, vasopressors and inotropes, XRAYS, and laboratory investigations.

Knowledge of the following advanced mechanical support devices is also expected: IABP, IMPELLA (2.5, CP, 5.0, 5.5, RP), CENTRIMAG, and ECMO (VV, VA).

We are a larger Family medicine practice with a Residency Program imbedded into the practice we have 5 core providers within the clinic and 9 residency providers that come through on a rotating schedule. Since we are a Family Practice set in a rural community we see an array of different patients from new born all the way up. We do in house point of care labs such as A1C’s, Hemoglobin, Urine analysis, Microalbumin along with Point of care Strep, Covid, Influenza, and RSV testing, among others. We carry vaccines for both adults and children. We offer telemedicine visits as well.

Job Summary:

Providers are divided into four groups which include ten to twelve providers, three MAs, and one RN. Team based atmosphere with structured work processes. Practice Overview

We have an office at 4100 Lake Drive which is our larger office in Grand Rapids, and at 8333 Felch Street Suite 300 it is a multi-Specialty space within Zeeland Hospital. We have providers that flex to 6 other locations.  Some locations we lease staff.  We have staff that go to Health Pointe in Grand Haven and North Muskegon. Medical Assistant room for providers they take vitals, do body comp analysis for certain appointments, reconcile mediations etc., in patients’ chart.  They work with providers and nurses on incoming/outgoing in basket messages to patients.  They do chart prep place lab orders and pend them for providers to review/cosign.  They handle short term disability and FMLA paperwork.  They clean rooms, stock supplies, we have various handouts that we distribute they help maintain supplies in rooms. They answer phones calls, retrieve messages.  We have surgical seminar several times during the week where a group of patients come in to learn the surgical options the MA assigned obtains vitals, obtains health history forms and enters date into computer if patient didn’t complete electronically for the surgeon this done while surgeon is presenting in group setting. They take patient photos at various visits. They provide a drafted surgical checklist to the surgeons that surgeon will review with the patient. They process forms for record releases. They create surgical consents. We have materials that we provide to patients at our final decision and preop visits they prepare the bags that they give to patients. They provide injection education for patient who are a weight loss medication.

Office Culture

We are fortunate with our culture; we are close group; everyone works to help each other out. Our staff can ask any provider any question and they will answer it. Our surgeons typically at end of each office day go around and thank the staff for their assistance for that day. We typically engage in team events during the year and often included staff spouses/significant others.  We have great glint scores and have glint committee that works on team events and belonging. SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Practice Manager, the Clinical Assistant coordinates aspects of patient care by managing communication and clerical tasks essential to the functioning of the site. Job Summary:

Under the direction of management and physician leadership, performs and oversees functions related to the clinical activities including, but not limited to: maintains patient flow by assisting and promoting the delivery of primary and preventative health care, performs technical procedures, lab protocols and clinically oriented activities under physician/provider direction.
