About the Role
UKAEA is seeking a skilled individual to deliver quality management for a large-scale engineering project. This role is essential in ensuring that all products, including manufactured items and information/documents/skills, meet the quality expectations of our customers. You will be responsible for developing a project quality management plan and quality processes and procedures, liaising with the central Quality Assurance function, and adhering to the company's quality policy.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and Implement Quality Plans: Create a comprehensive Project Quality Management Plan covering both tangible (manufactured items) and intangible products (information/documentation/skills).
Quality Management System: Establish a project Quality Management System aligned with existing organizational policies, procedures, and processes.
Technical Advice: Provide expert advice on quality and technical matters such as materials, bonding, specifications, codes, and standards.
Supplier Quality Requirements: Influence and create project-specific QA/QC supplier quality requirement specifications.
Quality Criteria: Ensure all product requirements, specifications, and designs include suitable and effective quality criteria.
FMEA Participation: Contribute to the development and refinement of Design and Process FMEA's (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).
Test Procedures: Develop product test procedures, control plans, and inspection and Test Plans.
Inspection Management: Plan and manage inspections and surveillance activities on-site and at suppliers to verify product quality.
Quality Reviews: Plan, prepare, and lead product quality reviews.
Deviation and Non-conformance: Support the UKAEA process for identifying and controlling deviations and non-conformances.
Performance Metrics: Develop and monitor quality performance metrics and reports, presenting them to the appropriate meetings.
Training and Awareness: Provide training and awareness activities to promote the project quality management system and ensure adherence.
Sub-contractor Documentation: Review sub-contractor documentation.
Quality Log Maintenance: Maintain a project quality log to record all quality checking activities.
Supplier Meetings: Attend supplier kick-off and pre-production meetings.
Accountabilities
Documentation Compliance: Follow UKAEA's Integrated Delivery Process and maintain required project documentation in compliance with Quality Assurance requirements.
Tender and Contract Assistance: Assist with equipment and service tenders and purchase contracts as needed.
Coordination and Collaboration: Liaise with other Groups and Departments to ensure effective coordination and collaboration across interfaces and competing demands.
Budgetary Responsibility
Inspection Service Costs: Manage TPI and inspection service contract costs.
Qualifications
Degree: A degree or equivalent in an engineering/science discipline, or equivalent experience.
Experience and Skills
Quality Management Systems: Knowledge and experience of ISO9001 based quality management systems.
Inspection Management: Experience managing quality assurance/control inspections within a workshop and/or manufacturing environment.
Project Lifecycle: Experience in the full project lifecycle from manufacturer to Engineering procurement contractor to operator.
Industrial Standards: Knowledge and experience of industrial standards for fabrication and welding.
NDT Proficiency: Good understanding of NDT techniques such as MPI, DPI, UT & RAD.
Quality Records: Proficient in specifying Lifetime Quality Records content and approving final packs.
QA Grading: Experience in system quality level and component QA grading.
Auditing: Internal and external auditing experience.
Documentation: Review and approval of internal and external documentation.
Test Witnessing: Experience witnessing FAT & SAT.
Communication Skills: Ability to clearly communicate both verbally and through written reports.
Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills to develop effective working relationships across various roles and levels of responsibility.
Time Management: Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
