As a Supervisory Epidemiologist (Data Science) you will:

• Design, plan and, initiate epidemiologic studies, surveys, and investigations.
• Provide epidemiologic advice and/or assistance in the resolution of technical problems and issues that include significant barriers to program or project delivery.
• Consult and collaborate utilizing statistical, data science, artificial intelligence (e.g., machine learning), and public health professionals in the collection, linkage, processing, coding, classification, and analysis of public health surveillance, research and administrative health data.
• Assist in monitoring data quality issues and collaborate with informatics and information technology professionals to develop automated systems and tools to process, clean, and verify data integrity.
• Serve as a nationally and internationally recognized expert, providing scientific advice and consultation on solutions to critical problems that require creativeness in generating new hypotheses, approaches, and standards.
• Provides leadership in designing, coordinating, and maintaining information technology (IT) project goals, objectives, and priorities.
• Supervise staff and assign work; and make decisions on work problems presented by subordinate staff personnel or contractors.

This is a career ladder progression position; the duties described below are at the GS-11 level. If selected at a grade below GS-11, the incumbent will serve in a developmental capacity, wherein the work is less complex in nature and the supervisor, or a senior level employee provides specific instruction and guidance. At the GS-11 grade level, the incumbent:

• Independently conducts a wide variety of onsite safety and health inspections and investigations of mining operations as applicable, mills, preparation plants and related facilities.
• Prepares written reports of inspections and investigations, issuing citations and orders for violations found during examinations.
• Promotes safety and health among mine operators and workers by directing and participating in safety and health training programs, meetings, demonstrations, mine rescue competitions, and related activities.
• Provides technical advice and guidance to mine operators to help them solve problems and comply with mine safety and health requirements.
• Assists mine operators in the planning of modifications to improve and/or correct deficiencies in the operation such as selecting and installing new equipment and changing materials or methods.
• Promotes safety and health among mine operators and workers by directing and participating in safety and health training programs, meetings, demonstrations, mine rescue competitions, and related activities.
• Serves as a MSHA representative and information source on mine safety and health.
• Testifies at judicial hearings regarding notices of violations and orders of withdrawal.

Work Environment: The incumbent inspects and/or investigates both surface and underground mining operations as applicable, which is a very hazardous and stressful work environment surrounded by a high risk of exposure to potentially dangerous situations. In addition to the characteristically dark, wet, and cramped environment, underground mines contain noxious gases and fumes, and the danger of potentially explosive dust or gases, electrical fires, roof falls, and exposure to radiation.

As a Lead Research Microbiologist you will:

• Serve as a Team Leader.
• Lead the team in: identifying, distributing and balancing workload and tasks among employees in accordance with established workflow, skill level and/or occupational specialization; making adjustments to accomplish the workload in accordance with established priorities to ensure timely accomplishment of assigned team tasks; and ensuring that each employee has an integral role in developing the final team product.
• Serve as a senior scientist and nationally recognized technical authority in viral diagnostics.
• Plan, prioritize, initiate, design, conduct, coordinate, direct, lead basic and apply research studies, particularly as related to development of novel diagnostics for virus families that cause diseases of humans.

• Serves as an Inspector General (IG), Chief of Assistance and Investigations, with responsibility for responding to requests for IG assistance, conducting investigations, and planning and executing site visits.
• Evaluates and assesses overall operations of organization by reviewing assistance and investigation activity in such areas as resource utilization, military leadership, training, compliance with regulations and directives, and business practices.
• Prepares report of findings, and develops briefing or executive summary for presentation to the Commander, Deputy Commander, Chief of Staff, and senior leaders in HQ ARCYBER.
• Serves as the liaison between DoDIG, DAIG, Combatant Command IGs, USCYBERCOM, ACOM/ASCC/DRU IGs, NETCOM, 7th SC(T), 335th and 311th SC(T) IG subordinate commands in discussing issues relevant to the IG functional responsibilities.

As a Physician Public Health you will:

• Generate new hypotheses and develop new concepts, methods, and strategies for obtaining and using data on the major medical and health risks associated with various scientific public health programs.
• Conceive, plan, evaluate, coordinate and implement activities related to research programs, projects, etc. that will assist in achieving the goals of the agency and/or CC/CO/CIO utilizing information provided from the entire scientific and medical community as well as from other components of the agency.
