Staff Dentist: An individual that demonstrates the ability in the field of general dentistry or a dental specialty who is employed to perform the duties related to various professional activities of patient care and treatment without supervision. In addition to meeting the basic requirements, applicants must demonstrate ability in the general practice of dentistry; be capable of assisting in maintaining accepted standards of professional care in VA facilities; and be capable of accepting full responsibility for the proper care and treatment of assigned patients

Primary duties and responsibilities for all Dentists include, but are not limited to:

• Routine exams and teeth cleaning
• Restorative procedures, including fillings and crowns
• Comprehensive surgical care, including extractions (pulling teeth) and oral cancer screening
• Routine and advanced prosthodontic care, including bridges, dentures, and dental implants
• Routine and advanced periodontal care, including root canals, gum treatments, and supporting bone care
• Oral and facial reconstruction surgery to repair damage from traumatic injury or serious illness

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Work from blueprints, drawings or other specifications, consulting supervisor as necessary relative to the interpretation of technical details.
• Responsible for following an assignment through to completion (from initial layout to final assembly) and work is subject to check during performance and on completion.
• Installs, repairs and replaces doors and door frames, including metal, modifies existing structure, construction new or relocating room partitions and installing the necessary bracing for support.

• Installs runners, tees and angels for acoustic suspended ceilings, vinyl floor tiles and cove base and creates equipment for shipment.

The Local Recovery Coordinator (LRC) functions as a champion and advocate for the recovery model. LRC also serves as a recovery ombudsman to the Associate Chief of Staff of Mental Health (ACOS-MH), program managers, and staff on recovery and implementation of recovery-oriented services. In conjunction with the ACOS-MH, the LRC develops a 3-5 year plan for the facility that identifies staged implementation of recovery-oriented services (e.g., use of recovery plans). LRC is responsible for coordinating the evaluation of recovery implementation at the facility and reporting results to the National Recovery Coordinator (NRC). With guidance from the NRC, the LRC will implement measures to assess recovery policy and procedure adherence, as well as assess the extent that the recovery model is embodied in the Mental Health programs. Some of the duties include, but are not limited to;

• Develops a facility recovery education plan for providers and Veterans and their families.
• Develops an ongoing education plan for providers, Veterans, and families that includes recurrent didactic presentations about elements of recovery (e.g., recovery plans) and recovery implementation by experts.
• Serves as consultant to Mental Health programs and recovering Veterans in development of peer support groups, consumer counseling, and consumer operated services, as per local needs and resources.
• Advises the Mental Health Program Managers on filling peer specialist positions and serves as a consultant to peers specialists.
• Assists with VA regional or local recovery-oriented trainings, meetings, or conferences as needed.
• Serves as a Mental Health Liaison to the facility Consumer Council.
• Provides an annual report on implementation progress to the VISN, RC and the NRC; other reports will also be prepared as requested.
• Meets quarterly via conference call with the VISN RC to coordinate a network response to recovery implementation and implementation of CO policies and procedures related to recovery.
• Must have a high level of skill and expertise to establish and maintain effective therapeutic relationships with Veterans in the Mental Health Service and/or their families.
• Able to independently work with Veterans and their families who are experiencing a wide range of complicated medical, psychiatric, emotional, behavioral, and psychosocial problems.
• Possess a thorough knowledge and have experience in use of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities, and treatment procedures, including acute, chronic, and traumatic illnesses, common medications and their effects/side effects, and medical terminology.
• Independently complete psychosocial assessments and be able to independently provide a DSM diagnosis to determine the psychosocial functioning and needs of Veterans and/or their families.
• Able to utilize this assessment in facilitating the Veteran's maximum use of treatment for attainment of the highest level of independence that is possible and practicable.
• Utilize standardized instruments in the assessment of mental health problems/conditions.
• Must possess knowledge and ability to independently implement Evidenced Based treatment modalities, provide individual, group or family psychotherapy, supportive contact and psychosocial education for Veterans and families.
