We welcome applications to this fixed term post as a senior clinical fellow in the general surgery department with an interest in pelvic floor unit at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation trust. The post is intended to give the successful applicant hands-on experience in a busy Pelvic Floor Unit. It is expected that the appointee will be given opportunity to work across all 3 main sites (Southend, Basildon and Broomfield (Chelmsford) to deliver the best exposure to all the service can offer.
The first designated Pelvic Floor clinics were started at Southend in 2007 followed shortly by PTNS and Rectal Irrigation Services. The Regional Pelvic Floor Unit was formally established at Southend in 2015 with the building of a brand new dedicated Unit and appointment of a Pelvic Floor CNS and a Pelvic Floor Fellow. This is a busy centre offering comprehensive pelvic floor service to patients from mid and south Essex areas
Performing Operations and Assisting in Theatres
Exposure to endoscopy
Seeing patients in Out Patient Clinics including the surgical emergency clinic
Responsibility for continuity of care for patients on the ward
Examining and making management plans with on call consultant of all admissions when on duty
Attending and leading ward rounds
It is the doctor’s responsibility to ensure that they take natural breaks as required under New Deal and EWTD and to keep to rostered hours of work
Participation in audit/research
Participation in teaching both in hospital and with ARU medical school
On-Call and leave arrangements
The expected on call rota will be 1 in 13 shift system

It may be possible, by agreement, to support exposure to other areas of general and colorectal interest within the department based on individual experience and interest including, and not limited to: general surgery daycase operating, endoscopy and other areas of subspeciality interest such as abdominal wall, IBD, colorectal cancer, TAMIS, robotic-assisted surgery and complex pelvic surgery including exenteration. There is no expectation to deliver on-call or emergency care but again if desirable to an applicant this may be also possible subject to individual agreement.We look forward to your application.
