The John Radcliffe & Churchill Pharmacy departments are looking for Registered Pharmacy Technicians to join them! This is an exciting opportunity for those who would like to gain hospital experience, working both in dispensary & on the wards.

The post holders will support both our Dispensary and Clinical services and ensure that our patients receive the best care possible. This opportunity is ideal for those would like to gain hospital pharmacy experience. Applicants must hold the NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy services or equivalent recognised qualification, applicants must also be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

Within this role you will receive full training to become both an Accredited Checking Technician and a Ward Based Technician, allowing you to progress to band 5 on completion of both accreditations.

Technicians without both ACT and MMT will be appointed at band 4 and receive uplift to band 5 on completion of both the stand-alone ACT and MMT accreditations. Newly qualified Technicians who have completed the Integrated Level 3 apprenticeship incorporating both ACT and MMT, will be appointed at 75% top of band 5 and receive uplift to band 5 subject to successful sign off at 6-month review.

The Pharmacy Technician role is varied, and requires flexibility in your approach to work, supporting both dispensary, stores and ward-based work on either the John Radcliffe Hospital or Churchill Hospital site. The successful applicant will be required to assist in the smooth running of the dispensary, providing co-ordinator support to the dispensary team together with our Senior Technicians, or in the absence of the Senior Technician, and at weekends. You will support the training and induction of new members of the team, pharmacy apprentices, trainee technicians and pharmacists working alongside you.

This role includes labelling, dispensing and checking duties, monitoring of workload and our tracking screen to support our TTO KPI, patient counselling and much more! Ward based tasks will include assessing of patients own drugs, medicines reconciliation and one stop ordering. Excellent customer service skills are essential in this role as you will answer the phone, dealing with queries from our service users, and cover both staff and out-patient reception. Stores responsibilities include supporting ward and fluid top up services to clinical areas, receipting of deliveries and stock management processes.

We are lucky to be supported by ever evolving technology, with electronic prescribing and a robot to support the labelling and dispensing of medications. The successful applicant will be trained in the full use of the robotic system on either site.

Both the John Radcliffe & Churchill dispensary teams are a friendly and hardworking team of staff ranging from band 2 Assistants through to band 7 Technicians. Many of our dispensary technicians later take other roles within the wider Pharmacy team and this role is ideal for gaining that experience to progress further in your career.

This is a full-time position, 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, with working hours of 9:00-17:15, however flexible working options would also be considered. You will also be required to participate in weekend working on a 1:6 rota basis, bank holiday, early and late duty rotas as per rota.

We are looking to recruit one full time Sterile Services Technician to join our team at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Sterile Services Department. This is a busy unit based adjacent to the Operating Theatres responsible for the decontamination of surgical instruments for use in the main Operating Theatres, plus WW and WC Operating theatres, and some wards and departments.

You will be required to undertake tasks associated with the cleaning, disassembly, checking, packing, sterilization and movement of surgical instruments to ensure the safe reprocessing, and distribution of products for use in theatres and other clinical departments.

You will follow written instructions, use specialist machinery and electronic tracking systems in the accordance with departmental guidelines. You will comply with the requirements of quality systems, as stated in ISO 13485, Medical device regulations plus all other relevant standards.

The Thames Valley Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) screening programme offers community based ultrasound screening for abdominal aortic aneurysms to an eligible population of almost 13,000. The target screening population are men in their 65th year.

The primary purpose of the Screening Technician role is to undertake the day to day operational running of AAA Clinics out in the community, across Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire with the large proportion of the programme’s clinics held in East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire.

The primary purpose of this role is to perform ultrasound scanning as part of the National Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme (NAAASP). The post holder will ensure abdominal ultrasound scanning is undertaken to a high standard and in accordance with national standard operating procedures.

The post holder will reassure men attending the community AAA screening and surveillance clinics and explain the screening test to them. The post holder will ensure that the men attending clinics are informed and aware of the implications of AAA screening.

The post holder will be responsible for informing the participant of the result of their scan and for ensuring the participant outcome is processed correctly.

We are looking for someone who is willing to train as a technician. The trainee role is suitable for people from a variety of backgrounds who can undertake a Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care which typically takes 12 months to complete. No previous experience is required as training will be given to ensure high standards of scanning in accordance with National Operating Procedures. The training also enables the Screening Technician to have confidence in explaining the screening programme, reassuring patients about the implications of the scan, discussing results and arranging the next steps, should it be required.

The post holder will initially work as an assistant practitioner, carrying out abdominal ultrasound scans within standard operating procedures. Following successful completion of the NAAASP course, the post holder will work independently and make judgements according to experience and training. Advice is available when needed for more complex situations but the post holder generally works on his/her own initiative without reference to the Line Manager.
• Organise and carry out ultrasound scans of the abdominal aorta in accordance with current guidelines for sonographic scanning and the programme protocol.
• Ensure that scan results are despatched as soon as possible from off-site screening clinics to the screening office in a safe and confidential way.
• Communicate the outcome of the screening test to the man (this may be via his relative/carer or interpreter); provide additional information and offer support appropriate to the outcome/patient pathway.
• Deal with medical and patient enquiries as appropriate, taking the initiative to prioritise work and to bring to the attention of medical or administrative staff any patient whose condition warrants it.
• Handle incidents and medical emergencies in a professional manner and in accordance with local policy, supporting other screening staff if appropriate.
• Keep the Screening Programme Manager, Team Leader Screening Technician, Programme Administrator and/or Clinical Skills Trainer informed of caseload and any difficulties arising, seeking advice where necessary.
• A full driving licence and use of a car are essential to this role and the successful candidate must be willing to travel frequently to cover all areas.
