Dulwich College (Singapore) is recruiting a Science Technician to join its Senior School (Secondary equivalent) to support the Science Department in the management and preparation of resources to enable the effective delivery of science curriculum at the College, as well as the maintenance and testing of equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare resources, make up solutions, assemble apparatus, and deliver equipment to labs as required;
- Play an active role in developing and trialing new practical activities;
- Assist and demonstrate in practical classes as required;
- Provide technical advice and assistance to teachers, technicians and students;
- Assist and demonstrate in practical classes as required;
- Supervise students carrying out investigations and experiments;
- Keep laboratories tidy and ordered;
- Oversee the clearing away, storage and maintenance of practical equipment after practical lessons;
- Working with other Technicians to ensure the safe storage, concentration of stock solutions suitable for students, labels, warning signs and disposal of chemical and biological waste according to local regulations and guidelines;
- Support the College cleaning staff in ensuring the safe cleaning of science laboratories and preparation areas;
- Keep up-to-date with health and safety regulations;
- Carry out risk assessments of own activities and practical as requested by teachers, seeking advice when necessary;
- Provide advice on safe practice and monitoring activities to ensure there are followed;
- Assist in the management, use, and provision of resources, including books and teaching materials;
- Maintain class sets of laboratory resources (including stationery);
- Service and clean equipment and resources as required;
- Carry out stocktaking of equipment, chemicals and stationery, in order to maintain appropriate stock of apparatus and consumables;
- Fix broken Science equipment. If not possible, organize for it to be fixed or replaced;
- Monitoring access to science laboratories and prepare areas;
- Attend additional training as required;
- All other duties commensurate with the post.
The successful candidate will possess:
- A Certificate or Diploma in a Science discipline would be an advantage;
- A minimum of two year's work experience in a laboratory or engineering setting or similar;
- Experience of working with electrical and laboratory equipment;
- Experience of undertaking risk assessments, implementing and monitoring health and safety plans.
- Experience of working as a laboratory technician in a school or college setting would be an advantage;
- The ability to follow procedures and guidelines;
- Fluency in English and the ability to communicate effectively with students and colleagues;
- A flexible approach to work, and the willingness to contribute to the wider team;
- The ability to use own initiative to undertake required tasks.
