Job Description

Essential Functions:

• Assists pharmacists in the preparation and distribution of medications.
• Completes billing within the appropriate time frame assuring accurate charges with correct date of service in designated areas.
• Labels and packages medications appropriately. Prepares medications in a timely manner to expedite delivery to the patient.
• Operates automated technology (Automated Dispensing Cabinets, carousel, compounders, packager, printers, etc.) in accordance with department standards and expectations.
• Acts as a resource for new pharmacy caregivers.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

• Performs extensive sleep disorders testing for diagnostic purposes and maintains records of reports as observed by Director of Diagnostic Services.
• Identifies, recognizes normal/abnormal patterns of sleep and scores the following sleep/wake stages of the recording using the standard criteria (Awake, Stage 1, 2, 3, 4 and REM Sleep). Maintains back up diskettes of all testing.
• Documents during recording: body position, complaints, and intervention or treatments. Recognizes and the source identified for high frequency interference, low frequency interference, and unstable or wavering DC baseline.
• Monitors patient understanding, effort, and tolerance throughout testing procedure and documents appropriately.
• Reviews patient records, physician orders, protocols, and data to demonstrate ability for interpretation of subjective and objective information for patient assessment and order validation. Seeks guidance from Director/Supervisor and Medical Director for unresolved issues.
• Performs daily calibration and periodic maintenance of all diagnostic testing equipment, records results on maintenance records per departmental policy and reference manuals.
• Assists other members of the staff maintain skills in performing diagnostic testing.
• Participates in the orientation, mentorship and education of personnel and students. Provides formal and informal teaching/learning opportunities to assist personnel to achieve and maintain competence necessary for safe and effective practice.
• Investigation and evaluation of new products, procedures, and equipment as they directly relate to The Sleep Center.
• Consistently assess, identify, demonstrate the ability to communicate and address special needs of patients that are appropriate to the patient specific age group (neonates Birth - 1 month), (pediatrics 1 month – 12 years), (adolescent 1 years), (adults 1 years), (Geriatric 65+ years) when directly or indirectly providing treatment, testing or patient care and assess their level of understanding.
• Participates in the evaluation of customer satisfaction as well as adherence to the Guest Relation Standards.

Essential Functions

• Must perform most essential functions of the IV Pharmacy Technician and perform duties related to the ordering, receiving, storing, preparing, compounding, dispensing and distribution of sterile, hazardous, and non-hazardous drugs. 
• Maintain and monitor proper documentation of compounding, cleaning (including deactivation and decontamination of hazardous drugs), testing, and certification of equipment and compounding areas.
• Responsible for ensuring competency of all aspects of staff (both technicians and pharmacists) performing sterile compounding and handling hazardous drugs, including but not limited to garbing, proper compounding procedure, cleaning, testing, and training. Works collaboratively with pharmacists to ensure compliance of USP 797 and USP 800 standards.
• Oversee inventory management of highly expensive chemotherapy and biotherapy drugs, which includes monitoring usage, managing drug shortages, working with limited distribution network purchasing requirements, monitoring expirations, and reducing waste.
• Utilizing and maintaining software systems and acts as a resource for upgrades and changes. Monitoring of equipment, room pressure, temperature and humidity in compounding and drug storage rooms, engineering controls, environmental monitoring, and quality of sterile preparations to evaluate compliance with USP 797 and USP 800 standards.
• Trained on hazardous drug exposure and spill control, including treatment of individuals accidently exposed to hazardous drugs.
• Support all aspects of investigational drug management, including inventory, information and recordkeeping, and preparation for dispensing.
• Participates in quality improvement projects for error prevention strategies.
• Acts as a mentor to enforce proper procedures.

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, performs a wide variety of technical and clinical and/or clerical duties to support the hospital wide unit-dose drug distribution system and intravenous admixture program. May be exposed to or responsible for maintaining confidential reports, entering and retrieving data utilizing the computer system, preparing intravenous medication, filing and delivering routine orders for unit dose and prepackaged pharmaceuticals and providing accurate assistance to the pharmacist in performing daily duties. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Distribution/Processing: Delivers routine, stat and floor-stock medications including controlled substances. Completes order entry and fills all types of medication orders within scope of practice. Processes charges, credits, admissions, discharges and transfers. Answers phones and relays messages within the department. Under direct supervision of the pharmacist, fills routine patient orders for unit dose carts and prepackaged pharmaceuticals, preparing, compounding and labeling IV admixture. Displays competency in the use of Pharmacy resources, including computer software (i.e., Automated Dispensing Cabinets, packagers, BCMA) and other technology. Performs routine supply and billing functions.
• Inventory: Continuously maintains pharmacy inventory and supplies according to established policies and procedures through assigned inspections, use of automated dispensing units and medication supplies depending on facility. Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking and storing pharmaceuticals and supplies in appropriate locations, restocks medications and prepackages bulk medications in unit dose packages.
• IV Prep/Packaging: Compounds, stocks, repackages and batches from bulk medications. Prepares routine patient orders for IV pharmaceuticals.
• Work Environment: Contributes to the effective operation of the department through all activities including computer functions, processing cart fill lists, pick lists, refill medications, generation of labels and answering phone appropriately. Maintains a clean and orderly work environment.
• Safety and Quality: Participates in continuous performance improvement and regulatory compliance efforts. Takes responsibility for quality improvement efforts and then monitors processes and results. Maintains an attitude that promotes and fosters an environment of safety.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

• Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) required within 24 months of hire. Incumbents in role as of July 1, 2022 must achieve CPhT by 1/1/2024.

Preferred

• Completion of pharmacy technician training program.

Principle Responsibilities

• Processing requests
  • Process new Service Requests from the analysis and definition of customer requirements through acquisition, approvals, service delivery, implementation and fulfillment.
  • Research and work with a Value Added Reseller (VAR) to define technical feasibility, compatibility and supportability of infrastructure hardware/software .
  • Gather requirements and coordinate complex and large scale installation, move, add, changes (IMAC) within established service level agreements.
  • Conduct in-depth research, complex technical analysis and recommendations for non-standard hardware requests or incidents in consideration of technical systems capability, short and long term support implications, feasibility and ownership requirements.
  • Demonstrate and promotes good stewardship of company resources through following proper asset management procedures.
• Providing work direction
  • Prioritize conflicting day-to-day technical workloads and special requests while enforcing Service Level Agreements (SLA) to expected standards.
  • Assign work direction and expectation to technical staff within the region.
  • Serves as key regional technical contact for site contacts and Information Technology (IT) management for special requests, identifying issues and addressing their impact, and proactively recommending solutions.
  • Provide, mentoring, training and work guidance for technical issues to less experienced team members.
  • Monitor training needs of regional team, communicate when training is available and updated manager.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight of PC Refresh team.
  • Participate in non-prime 24x7 on-call rotation.
• Desktop troubleshooting and support
  • Organize installations, staffing and physical moves, maintaining and troubleshooting various computer equipment, including Desktop PCs, laptops, Integrated Wireless WAN laptops, tablets, mobile devices, printers, and scanners, monitors, IOS devices, etc.
  • Skilled and experienced troubleshooter with ability to determine root cause of complex and problematic issues very quickly and with high resolution certainty.
  • Assess, evaluate and recommend technical solutions for computer hardware, software, network connectivity and basic telecom issues for short term and long term resolutions.
  • Follow and communicate established policies and procedures; create documentation or notify manager if documentation is outdated, incorrect or needs improvement.
  • Able to perform minimum hardware repairs as required.
• Telecom troubleshooting and support
  • Proficient at maintaining Avaya equipment hardware such as removing/replacing phone components, headset issues and verification of network wiring.
  • Maintain, configure and support Avaya equipment software.
  • Perform local phone services by resolving issues regarding local phone services including vendor provided T1 and analog service interruptions and vendor management.
  • Configure and support Vocera and wireless phone systems without supervision.
  • Perform moves, adds and changes at system-wide locations including installation of analog, digital and IP phones and headsets.
• Network troubleshooting and support
  • Install preconfigured network gear such as switches, firewalls and terminal servers, asset tagging of UPS and ATS equipment.
  • Provide on-site after-hour power outage coverage.
  • Replace and/or install failed network equipment.
  • Perform low level access function to switches and term servers.
  • Conduct cross connections and switch documentation in data closets.
  • Maintain data closet best practices, troubleshoot or escalate issues within IT department.
• Project management and customer service
  • Organize, plan staffing and train employees on medium to large project teams.
  • Primary point of contact for regional Business Analyst IT/Coordinator for providing technical resources for projects and ensuring technical staff timely complete required work.
  • Coordinate complex implementation activities working with the regional Business Analyst IT/Coordinator, customers and other IT groups to produce desired business solutions while following standard project management methodologies.
  • Participate in and lead as needed, project meetings, assist in virtual walk-throughs and communicate with regional team members and other IT groups.
  • Communicate technical updates, issues, open issues, etc. to key stakeholders.
  • Maintain ServiceNow ticket service level agreement (SLA) and document customer communications and work completed within SN tickets.
• Process and documentation
  • Proactively identify opportunities for incident resolution, service improvements and internal efficiencies following ITIL best practices.
  • Document processes and procedures for common Services Requests and Incidents, thereby enabling less experienced personnel to become familiar with proven methods of resolution.
  • Participate and lead when needed task groups to define, develop, document, communicate and implement technical process improvements and initiatives.
  • Create, distribute and train on clear and concise technical process documentation for team members, end-users and support groups.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience needed to meet required functional competencies as listed on the job description, and High school diploma or GED preferred
• Vocational or Technical Training in computer science, information technology or related field preferred
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology or related field preferred
• 5 to 7 Years experience with operating systems, infrastructure, hardware and software, previous work with desktop, telecom and network hardware required

Graduate of an associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technician
OR
Meets Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) guidelines for the complexity of laboratory testing for alternative route. 

Licensure/Certification Qualifications:

Certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologists ( AMT) or National Credentialing Agency  (NCA) or equivalent; within one year of hire.
