About the Opportunity:

Established in 2021, Brown Arts Institute (BAI) is a university-wide research enterprise and catalyst for the arts at Brown that creates new work and supports, amplifies, and adds new dimensions to the creative practices of Brown’s arts departments, faculty, students, and community. Through year-round programming, research-focused courses, initiatives, collaborations, and partnerships, along with rigorous artistic and academic programs, BAI commissions and presents new work on campus, across Providence, Rhode Island, and beyond, from students, faculty, and on-campus arts groups, as well as in collaboration with forward-focused visiting artists and other performing arts organizations.

The Director of Design and Production (DDP) reports to the Artistic Director and is responsible for ensuring that the overall design and execution of productions taking place in any existing or future BAI venues meets exemplary professional standards. The DDP must maintain the highest level knowledge of all BAI venue specifics, including all technical and safety requirements, and is responsible for working closely with all programmed artists, as well as internal and external designers, to ensure that projects - including BAI commissions and transfers from other venues -  are appropriately designed for BAI venues. The DDP creates technical budgets, calendars, and staffing plans in collaboration with the Artistic Director and Producing Director, and is also responsible for identifying, recruiting, and managing all technical staff assigned to the BAI and BAI venues.  An active participant in the engineering, planning and execution of designs for all productions, the DDP, when necessary, submits designs to shops or rental houses to solicit bids and manages fabrication or rentals to meet set, costume, lighting, sound, and projection needs. The DDP ensures that standards of safety are observed by serving as the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) representative for the BAI. The DDP may play a direct role in instructing students by offering design and production classes at the discretion of the BAI Leadership, and provide mentorship for those engaged in the production-oriented aspects of BAI offerings.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
●    Work with Artistic Director, Producing Director, Director of Programs and Operations, and internal and external teams to ensure all production and design needs of BAI produced events are met, are professionally managed, and are working within established budgets and BAI and University policies and procedures.
●    Recruit, train, and supervise a robust production staff including Technical Directors, Assistant Technical Directors, department supervisors, on-call-staff and student assistants as well as stage managers, carpenters, riggers, stagehands, electricians, wardrobe, lighting and sound programmers. 
●    Meet regularly with department heads and staff to ensure ideas are exchanged, responsibilities defined, staffing needs are discussed, budgets are completely outlined and understood, spending practices are appropriate; and morale is maintained. 
●    Ensure that staff complies with all health and safety guidelines.
 

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

•  BA and 5-7 years in theatrical production, design, or related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience including 4+ years in:

  • Production management

  • Design oversight

  • Budgeting and financial management

  • Operations management

  • Supervisory experience

Job Competencies

• Proven success in managing/designing multiple, simultaneous, large-scale artistic productions in a range of disciplines.

• Knowledge of and experience in a broad range of artistic practice including performing, experimental, and visual arts.

• Ability to think strategically, with an eye to long-term planning, coupled with an ability to be flexible as the needs of the BAI continue to evolve

• Proven success in budgeting and financial management.

• Installs, troubleshoots, and maintains all hot water boilers, chillers, air compressors, cooling towers, auxiliary equipment consisting of water pumps, cooling towers, control air compressors, pneumatic/electric control valves, humidifiers, and exhaust fans. Cleans and performs preventive maintenance of boilers by blowing out tubes to eliminate sediment regulates feed water and condensation pumps lubricates pump equipment as appropriate. Test boiler and cooling tower water samples and chemically treats preventing corrosion and scale formation within the system. Monitors and replenishes maintenance inventory based. Follows blueprints, wiring diagrams, piping schematics or engineering specifications, to diagnose and repair units.
• Inspect building facilities to identify building maintenance needs ensuring the beautification and upkeep of the Facility. Perform preventative maintenance inspections/tasks per defined interval/schedule in a timely manner and document maintenance concerns/resolutions; providing action plans and status reports as needed. Recognizes and corrects potential equipment failure or unsafe conditions and communicates this to Supervisor, HVAC/R Mechanic. Has a general knowledge of DNV, NFPA, AADMS, ADA, OSHA, local, state and federal codes, requirements or regulations and is in accordance with Riverside policies and procedures. Utilizes appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to, safety glasses, mask, hearing protection, and gloves as needed.
• Operate and maintain a variety of work-related tools and equipment such as power saws, drills, air compressors, and various hand tools required. Responsible for proper care/cleaning of tools, parts, materials, and work area.

The Sr Principal Engineer - M&S is a technical leadership role. Performs simulation activities using CAE tools to model, analyze and provide creative, feasible solutions to problems encountered in product development. Communicates simulation methodology, inputs, assumptions, results and recommended actions to design engineering and leadership verbally and through written reports. 

YOUR IMPACT:  

• Create models and preform analysis on new or existing products (vehicles and vehicle subsystems, aerial and other vocational segment products) using CAE tools such as ALTAIR suite of analysis software.
• Propose appropriate simulation approaches and methodologies to maximize customer value.
• Maintain effective communication with internal customers on project scope, technical approach, timing, and results. 
• Provide clear interpretation of simulation and analysis results to customers through technical reports and presentations.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Electronic Warfare Operator (EWO) is a Subject Matter Expert working in a small, close-knit crew environment providing expertise in support of mission requirements. The EWO leverages their aviation and EW experience and critical-thinking prowess to develop tactics and techniques to counter emerging threats. The EWO will also work and coordinate with DoD entities and agencies to facilitate cutting-edge product development to ensure client capabilities meet current and future objectives. The EWO possesses an in-depth understanding of the key factors in aircraft survivability and combat mission planning to ensure client objectives are met. TOP SECRET/SCI clearance is required. The work schedule may be dynamic in nature. No overseas deployment is required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: This position offers a qualified candidate the unique opportunity to make good use of years of military Electronic Warfare training and Aviation experience. Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) and minimum of 8 years aviation experience in Electronic Warfare desired. Graduate of military technical training courses such as Electronic Warfare Officer, Navy Aviation Electronic Warfare School, Air Battle Manager, or Navy Airborne Early Warning School.
