The MVO drives gasoline or diesel-powered vehicle weights up to and over 26,000 pounds. The vehicle types include passenger cars, vans, station wagons, cargo van, stake trucks, bus, various capacities up to a 40-passenger bus (similar to a school bus). The vehicles are used for transporting patients and personnel on official business and for delivery of supplies and materials on and off the station. Vehicles are driven interstate, over roads and streets, through all kinds of traffic and weather conditions.

Duties Include:
-Perform duties over pre-determined routes and in accordance with a pre-determined schedule, over public roads at highway speeds.
-Operates doors and wheelchair lift to allow veterans and staff to enter and leave the bus.
-Assists nursing service personnel with loading and unloading of patients in wheelchairs.
-Ensures that patients and cargo are properly secured.
-Maneuvers cars, vans, and trucks in close quarters and in heavy traffic on both Interstate highways and local roads.
-Uses caution when backing to load or unload at loading docks, ramps or similar locations.
-Drives vehicle in a safe manner and complying with all vehicle traffic laws.
-Performs maintenance duties such as checking tires and tire pressure, battery condition, cooling system level, oil level, fuel level, power steering fluid and brake fluid levels, all lights, and checks for and report any physical damage before use of vehicles.
-Checks hydraulic fluid and performs air filter changes as appropriate.
-Reports motor vehicle accident and completes require reports.
-Maintains utilization records for all GSA and VA owned passenger and truck vehicles.
-Documents service or repairs, maintenance and inspections.
-Keeps vehicle clean (internal and exterior).
-Performs other related duties as assigned.

NOTE: Selected candidates will be required to pass a basic first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) course at the VA prior to transporting patients.

Incumbent will perform a variety of work involving the operation of motor vehicles in support of the maintenance and repair of roadsides including roads, culverts, bridges, guardrails, etc. Operate diesel and gasoline powered motor vehicles and heavy equipment which typically have a gross vehicle weight of more than 26,000 pounds and up to 32,000 pounds; vehicles are usually equipped with air brakes. Operate vehicles, including dump trucks and trash truck, in all kinds of weather over rough terrain, in close quarters, and in heavy traffic. Duties include crack sealing, asphalt patching, refuse/recycling collection, transporting material, and loading trucks with front end loader and/or backhoe. Operate tractors with attached flail and sickle bar mowers to cut grass and brush on shoulders, ditches, and cut banks alongside park roads. Perform operator maintenance on all vehicles operated according to manufacturer and park standards. Complete minor repairs and preventive maintenance of equipment. Perform manual labor tasks such as digging, raking, cleaning drainage ditches, picking up litter, etc.

The park consists of three separate units: South Unit, Elkhorn Ranch Unit, and North Unit. The park headquarters is located in Medora, North Dakota, where limited medical facilities, shopping, and schools' grades K-12 are located nearby. Complete services and a college are located in Dickinson, 42 miles east of Medora. The North Unit is 70 miles north by road from the South Unit and park headquarters. Medora is a seasonal town with a variety of services available from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
