My client is a large industrial manufacturer looking for an experienced Production Manager based on site in the Inverness area.
As part of the Management Team, the Production Manager will be responsible for the co-ordination and control of production activities on site, providing leadership and support to the production teams and managing individual staff performance. You will be responsible for 26 operational staff indirectly and 4 direct shift managers on site.

The main focus will be the delivery of the productivity target, whilst initiating continuous improvement in the following areas: quality, plant functionality, value for money from suppliers and contractors, health, safety and environmental performance and team work.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES OF THE POSITION

1. Health and Safety
* To set a positive example in all areas of compliance.
* To promote health and safety awareness of the companies' employees and contractors.
* Ensure compliance with all the companies' polices and guidelines and ensure appropriate risk assessments and working systems are in place.
* Effective planning and internal coordination for maintenance outages, to improve safety and to maximise efficiency.

2. Reliability and consistency of operation
* Responsible for the performance and efficiency of the Production Operations
* Ensure production targets are met in line with budget commitments.
* Establish an internal benchmarking system to compare site performance and to promote best practice between sites.
* Contribute to the strategic development of the production facility through the submission of capital projects.
* Plan and effectively execute annual maintenance shutdown to ensure safety, quality/completion of work and cost management.
* To contribute to the ongoing development of a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) System for the site
* Use a variety of techniques to maximise availability of all equipment, improve equipment efficiencies and reduce costs.
* Implement and use effective measures to facilitate a continuous improvement culture

3. General and administrative
* To foster good relations and promote a good team working culture in all areas of the business.
* Lead the Production team on Health and Safety performance and compliance.
* Communicate effectively with local management team and site personnel.
* Ensure company policies and procedures are adhered to.
* Meet all assigned goals and assist others in accomplishing their goals

4. Production Operations
* Liaise with the management teams to ensure the most effective use of resources to deliver agreed budgeted production.
* Develop, manage and maintain an automated workflow system for the manufacturing operations.
* Schedule, plan and conduct regular review meetings.
* Oversee staff scheduling, time off requests and overtime.
* Ensure all staff have the resources and information to perform their function.
* Ensure the completion of all duties with a minimum of waste and abuse of equipment.
* Ensure employee safety training is conducted as required by company policy and statutory regulations.

5. Production Personnel
* Provide a positive, motivating example for employees.
* Ensure the development and continual improvement of the production plant.
* Conduct formal performance reviews as per company policy.
* Participate in the recruitment and selection process as and when required.
* Manage absenteeism, including conducting Return-to-Work interviews and referrals to Occupational Health.
* Participation in the disciplinary and grievance processes.
* Advise the Human Resources Manager of any relevant HR issues on a timely basis.

* Degree qualified in a relevant discipline OR relevant Production Mgt. experience
* Analytical capacity to identify and address technical issues/opportunities which can impact upon production and quality
* An understanding of Total Quality Management

* Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem-solving ability.

About the Role

Base Location: Inverness or Elgin

Salary: £26,609 - £35,892 depending on skills and experience + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances, and wellbeing.

What is the Role?

We invest millions every year to make sure that our network is in the best condition possible to minimise the risk of power cuts and to ensure the safety of the public. During high winds and storms, trees can contact our equipment and cause power cuts, and so we cut them down or trim them back to keep the lights on. As well as installing the latest technologies and carrying out regular maintenance, we have our in-house tree-cutting team to make sure that trees and vegetation are kept away from our overhead lines and equipment.

Being part of a cyclical tree cutting programme, you will work with a highly skilled team to manage trees & vegetation near our distribution network. Working with safety at the forefront of all activities, you will work with your team to evaluate, prepare and carry out tree cutting works on a variety of sites.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would like you to have:

- Previous experience in operating and maintaining mulching machines would be advantageous although full training would be provided.

- Previous experience in tree cutting, forestry or arboriculture; similar capacity experience is also considered.

- You will also be required to use chainsaws so the relevant NPTC certificate units for the use of chainsaws would be required, and a qualification or certificates including NPTC UA would be a bonus, however not essential.

- Knowledge of the electricity network would be beneficial, however for the right applicant, full training will be provided.

- You will be comfortable working outdoors and must be flexible as the role will require you to work in all 3 of SSEN regional areas and may require stays away from home.

A full valid driving licence is essential along with trailer towing, categories B + C on your driving licence.

SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for maintaining high production, quality, and yields while ensuring the safest working environment possible. This position requires an essential understanding and control of the production process, accurate record keeping, and general line maintenance and staffing.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Checking daily production orders to ensure fulfillment of customer orders

·         Ensuring every position is filled before start-up of production line

·         Overseeing Team Member morning exercises and job rotation to facilitate ergonomics

·         Ensuring all machinery is performing to the highest standard possible.

·         Ensuring all workstations have passed USDA Inspection

·         Promoting safety daily as well as through monthly safety meetings

·         Ensuring accurate shipments, rotation of inventory, and proper coding of products.

·         Additionally, knowing and communicating company benefits and compensation policies to Team Members

·         Providing encouragement to Team Members to build the best team possible

·         Critical ability to perform the human relations functions such as training Retaining, and counseling on personal and professional problems.

·         Overseeing various processing operations and working with other supervisors in solving problems

REQUIREMENTS:

·         Experience:  At least 1 year in a meat manufacturing environment and prior supervisory experience preferred. 

·         Education: High school diploma; education beyond high school including special training, vocational school and/or college courses is preferred.

·         Computer Skills: Basic computer skills helpful.

·         Communication Skills: Strong communication skills.

·         Supervisory: This position is responsible for supervising a group of

     personnel who perform somewhat identical and related tasks or

    activities.

·         Travel: 1-5 trips per year.
