Major duties include but are not limited to;

• Moderate physical effort is required in the frequent loading and unloading, lifting, bending, pushing and carrying furniture with an average weight of 100 pounds up and down stairs, without the benefit or an elevator.
• Furniture Mover Truck Driver in the Environmental Management Service (EMS)responsible for the movement and relocation of all furniture to and from designated areas throughout the Medical Center.
• Assists in the periodic inventory of furniture.
• Disassembles and/or assembles furniture by hand and uses common tools exercising care and caution in handling of same. Assures the items are not damaged; and reports all damaged furniture to the immediate supervisor.
• Responsibility for the furniture store rooms and their security.
• Operates station motor vehicles in the performance of his/her assigned duties with gross vehicle weight of more than 7,000 pounds and Jess than 22,000 pounds and capable of carrying loads up to four tons. Vehicles include: vans, panel trucks, trucks, station wagons and pick-up trucks.

Cooling Season
During the cooling season, which is determined based on weather conditions, facility needs, and leadership (General Forman, Assistant Chief Engineer, Chief Engineer, Associate Director, Medical Center Director) instructions to start the chiller plant, the incumbent operates a centralized multiple zone air conditioning (Chiller) plant that serves the medical center's Buildings. The chiller plant consists of multiple chillers (steam, gas and electric), cooling towers, chill water systems, supporting equipment, and Building Management Systems (BMS).

The incumbent is also responsible for other chillers, chill water systems, and supporting equipment outside the plant serving other spaces within the medical center.

On a continuing basis, incumbent logs pressures and temperatures of components to include but not limited to compressor, engine, gear box, chill and condenser water lines, and all other components and systems that has reading devices.

Non-Cooling Season
During the non-cooling season, which is determined based on weather conditions, facility needs, and leadership (General Forman, Assistant Chief Engineer, Chief Engineer, Associate Director, Medical Center Director) instructions, the incumbent will perform maintenance, installation and servicing of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment throughout the medical center. Assignments includes but not limited to lubrication of motors, blowers and valves, monthly preventative maintenance, changing and cleaning of filters and coils, cleaning and painting of equipment; punch tubes on chillers and condensers, diagnose equipment malfunctions, repairs on a variety of refrigeration and air conditioning units such as walk-in freezers, ice making machines, window A/C units, package units, split AC units, reach-in refrigerators refrigerated centrifuges, Air Handling units (AHU). and any other tasks assigned by immediate supervisor, Maintenance and operations supervisor, Assistant chief engineer, and chief engineer.

The incumbent performs other duties as assigned as directed by immediate supervisor, Maintenance and operations supervisor, Assistant chief engineer, and chief engineer. including but not limited to preventive maintenance, work orders, and to enter all work performed into electronic work order system and update shift trouble logs.

Work Schedule: Monday-Sunday, rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends to support 24/7.

Physical Requirements: Incumbent is required to climb ladders, reach and lift heavy loads of over forty pounds and walk long distances in a regular work. Incumbent is required to perform a great amount of kneeling, bending, stooping, standing and climbing. Employee must be able to wear safety and protective clothing and /or equipment presented for the work setting. Incumbent is required to work both indoors and outdoors, in poorly lighted conditions, in all types of weather. Incumbent might have to work in areas of temperature extremes in plant or is exposed to changes in temperature while working on outside equipment, roof exhaust and ventilation fans. Noise level, when machines are in operation (cooling season) is high, requiring the use of ear plugs to prevent damage to the hearing. Other protective devices such as goggles, masks, and gloves may be needed periodically. Occasionally works in contaminated areas and is exposed to communicable diseases when changing filters, etc. Operators are also subjected to noxious gases, cuts, bruises and scrapes.

The Boiler Plant Operator utilizes manual and automatic controls to operate multiple utility systems on a continuing basis in accordance with State and Federal regulations and will function as a critical and integral part of the safe and efficient operation of the boiler plant and associated energy systems. Duties include but are not limited to:

• Oversee the areas of operations, maintenance, and repairs in a with minimal or no guidance from supervision.
• Maintaining boiler plant operations when transitioning from multiple fuel sources.
• Troubleshooting and adjusting plant and mechanical systems to ensure proper functioning.
• Maintaining repair equipment needed for routine maintenance.
• Reading gauges, meters, verifying steam pressure and recording maintenance data.
• Maintaining fuel tank levels in accordance with plant operating procedures
• Performing routine testing to determine proper pH balance, heavy metals and hazardous chemicals.
• Performing efficient and economical generation of steam producing systems.
• Performing operational repairs of limited to moderate complexity.
• Following instructions as provided by diagrams, drawings and operating manuals.
• Receiving fuel oil from tractor trailers and other suppliers while following all safety regulations

Duties include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for the utilization and maintenance of all automobiles, trucks, buses and special purpose vehicles and equipment owned by or leased to VAWNYHS (Batavia).
- Keep continuously aware of VAWNYHS (Batavia) needs and weather conditions, making available and scheduling vehicles accordingly, and carries out directions, policies and procedures issued by the Engineering Manager.
- Participates with his/her supervisor in the selection, promotion or reassignment of staff and recommends disciplinary actions and incentive awards, plans for improving work performances and training programs.
- Organizes and directs staff in productive daily work schedules, and accomplishes work within established policies of EMS.
- Responsible for ordering and stocking repair parts, supplies, materials, and equipment and participates in preliminary planning of budget for various control points.

- Be familiar with spraying and application techniques as well as pesticide use and other controls used in a ground maintenance management.
- Oversee contractors ensuring the safe usage of any materials being used.
- Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all grounds and snow removal equipment, such as road sweeper, lawn sweeper, salt spreader, flail mower, Bobcats 553, 5528, and 873, power washer, and portable generators.
- Responsible for administering road tests, grading applicants, maintaining records of authorized drivers and conducting a search of the driver's background through the National Driver Request Program.
- Instructs subordinates in the safe and efficient operation of such complex equipment as pay loaders, snowplows, tractors with backhoe, front-end loader and gang-mowers.

- Responsible for the upkeep of 48.8 acres of land which consists of 36 acres of lawns to be cut and trimmed, also includes the New York State Nursing
Home.
- Responsible for the removal of debris from all walks, stairs and stairwells, the removal of all trash and debris from VAWNYHS (Batavia) grounds. The removal of ice and snow in all parking lots, walks, and stairs during the winter months is managed by the incumbent.
- Responsible for supervisory oversight which includes environmental sanitation, waste management, and basic pest functions.
- Coordinates logistical support for interior design activities, and for setups and movement for furniture/furnishings.
-Makes daily inspections of areas serviced by Aids to insure adequate coverage and proper work performance, observes quantity and quality of work performed by housekeeping staff and work leaders advising them of conditions that do not meet prescribed standards and regulatory requirements.
-Responsible for the control, use and maintenance of numerous pieces of environmental sanitation equipment such as automatic floor scrubbers, vacuums, buffers, burnishers, and carpet extractors.

Duties include but not limited to:

• Assists higher graded shop personnel in Boiler Plant operations.
• Under the direct supervision of a Maintenance Mechanic (Boiler Plant) Journeyman.
• Assists with preventative maintenance (PM), and the maintenance and repair of boilers and associated steam production equipment.
• Moves and holds heavy or awkward items and attachments; carries, lifts, and holds materials in place during operations; operates power saws, grinders, pipe threaders, drills, cutting torches, etc., for the repair or installation of equipment as instructed by a journeyman.
• Assures safety requirements and housekeeping rules are followed and that personal protective equipment are properly used.
• Performs proper safety procedures prior to working on any type of HVAC/R equipment, fan motors, fans, pumps, etc.
• Lubricates and cleans shop equipment utilizing standard procedures, tools, and cleaning and lubricating agents. - Keeps shop tools properly stored, sweeps and cleans work area, and keeps work area clean and orderly.
• Performs other related duties and functions as assigned.

The Boiler Plant Operator uses manual and automatic controls to operate the Boiler Plant in the Operations Section of Facilities Management Service at the Lyons Campus. Performs all duties required to maintain the safe and efficient operation of a high-pressure steam boiler plant and performs all preventive maintenance duties, adjustments and corrective actions as required and necessary.

The Boiler Plant Operator performs all duties required to maintain the safe and efficient operation of a 3500-horsepower high-pressure steam boiler plant, operating steam pressure of boilers between 100 and 135 psi, consisting of five (5) 700-HP fire tube boilers (with economizers) automatic and. manually fired combination oil and natural gas burning. The total capacity is 120, 750 lbs. /hr. with an average output of 40,000 to 45,000 lbs. /hr.

The Incumbent performs all preventive maintenance duties, adjustments and corrective actions as required and necessary. The incumbent operates the feed water system, the steam system, domestic water, natural gas, fuel oil, and local control panels at each individual boiler and the main control panel with plant and boiler master controls along with all associated transmitters and recorders. The Incumbent operates systems and related components. Operations of the feedwater system consists of backflow preventers, water softeners, make-up tank, transfer pumps, a 100,000 lbs./hr. Deaerating Feedwater Heater and feed water pumps. The domestic water system includes a plant water softening system. The chemical feed system includes batch tanks, chemical storage tanks and chemical feed pumps. The natural gas system includes the main gas meter and regulator, solenoid operated cut-out valve, emergency cut-off switches, high and low gas pressure switches, filters, pressure regulators, pilots, solenoid valves, vents, and propane back-up pilot system. But are not limited to:

• Knowledge of principles and methods of operating high-pressure oil and gas-fired boilers and of the methods employed in determining and obtaining efficient combustion.
• Knowledge and ability to perform combustion and efficiency calculations.
• Knowledge to adjust firing rates for best combustion, efficiency and steam production.
• Skills to determine necessary settings and to adjust controls of generating equipment for desired operating conditions and synchronization of equipment with the system.
• Ability to read and interpret precision recording instruments, including valves, piping equipment, gauges, dials, controls, relays, switches and trips, and to record information noted.
• Skill in reading flow meters and charts to determine how much steam is being produced and whether it is meeting demands, how much fuel is being used, and how much water is being evaporated.
• Skills to interpret readings from charts and meters to determine whether to increase or lower fire in boiler, whether to start or stop boiler feed pumps, and to determine how long these are to operate.
• Ability to determine the type and amount of chemicals that need to be added to boilers for treatment of boiler water in order to control corrosion and scale formation.
• Has skill and knowledge to operate hand and power tools; Uses electrical tools, tools of the trade such as pipe wrenches, tap and die, hammer, drills, power equipment, pick and shovel, portable pumps and grease guns.

• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor, other operators and plant personnel.

• Responsible for the overall machine production in the Textile Care Processing facility (TCPF), ensuring quality and quantity of work performed meets established standards.
• Shifts available staff through work stations to meet the varying daily workload demands in production.
• Work assignments consist of soiled sorting, washing, drying, conditioning, rough dry folding, flatwork processing, uniform processing, patient personal processing, linen distribution, and the operation of all laundry machinery and equipment associated with the assigned tasks.
• Leads three (23) Operators, one(1)Sewing Machine Operator, and at least thirteen(913) Laundry Workers.
• Makes routine decisions, demonstrates proper techniques and safe practices to TCPF staff, and answers staffs' questions regarding policies, procedures and machinery/equipment operation.
• Monitors work while in progress to ensure production needs are met and proper procedures, rules and regulations are being followed.
• Confers with the TCPF Supervisor/Manager daily.to determine priorities and reports any TCPF discrepancies, malfunctions, shutdowns and concerns to the TCPF Supervisor/Manager. Incumbent assumes control of the TCPF in the absence of the Supervisor/Manager.

Duties include but not limited to:

The Utilities System Repairer Operator shall be responsible for, operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, installing and modifying complex boilers and ancillary equipment. The central boiler plant consists of 4 multi-fuel water tube and 3 fire tube high pressure boilers ranging from 200 H.P. -900 H.P. The boiler plant is controlled and monitored by a highly complex DDC computerized burner management and monitoring system. The incumbent operates, maintains and modifies to optimize efficiency and energy­-savings, while maintaining safety & environmental functions at proper levels for patient care and other facility operations. The incumbent shall be responsible for operation, preventive maintenance, testing and calibrating of highly complex boiler control.

Work shall involve the full range of duties required to operate one or more utility systems of extremely large capacity and flexibility such as multi-fuel boilers that have output ranges of 7,500 to 100,000 pounds of steam per hour. This includes lighting off, monitoring, controlling, securing and maintaining these power boilers and associated auxiliary and pollution control equipment. Incumbent shall operate dampers, induced and forced draft fans, heat exchangers, fuel pumps, air heaters, condensate and boiler water feed pumps, fuel pressure controls, valves, strainers, relief valves which have a variety of components, controls, gauges and auxiliary equipment to coordinate and monitor a variety of specialized work activities with diverse requirements. Checks and adjusts controls, starts, stops, regulates equipment, resets temperature, air, steam and burner management controls and ensures proper operation. Takes and records operational readings of all associated systems. Perform other duties as assigned.
