The major duties of the Motor Vehicle Operator will include, but are not limited to:

• Operating the following vehicles on a regular basis: Sedans (4,000 lb), Mini-Vans (6,050 lb), full size vans with wheelchair lifts (8,500 lb), John Deer Tractor, Model 5525, 105 Hp. 95 PTO Hp., Toro zero turn mower, shuttle passenger bus MGVWR - 25,850 lbs. 25 passengers, dual use vehicle - handicapped passenger bus MGVWR-32,000 lbs. 34 passenger (CDL required), emergency multi-use vehicle MGVWR-39,420 lbs. (CDL required), Bobcat Tool Cat 5600 F-Series vehicles and attachments, 3/4 ton trucks with snow plow, and emergency management trailers MGVWR over 10,000 lbs. (CDL required).
• Transporting employees throughout the southeastern part of the state of Michigan, primarily the Metro Detroit area.
• Operating vehicles of all sizes, some of which will require a state-issued commercial driver's license (CDL).
• Maintaining an accurate log sheet of all motor vehicles.
• Completing a pre and post operator check of vehicles and equipment for proper fluid levels (water, windshield washer, oil, brake and transmission) whenever required for use.
• Completing a check of air pressures, conditions of tires, etc.
• Abiding by all state and local traffic rules, regulations and exercises appropriate precautions for the safe operation of all motor vehicles and equipment in the safe transportation of passengers.
• Completing all motor vehicle tickets.
• Performing preventive maintenance duties set up by the facility and the General Services Administration.

Major duties and responsibilities include:

• Boiler Operation and Maintenance
  • Incumbent is responsible for operation and maintenance of gas-fired boilers using No. 2 oil as a standby energy source and all associated equipment such as Weishaupt burners with a forced draft blowers and variable frequency drives, electric exhaust and fresh air intake blowers/dampers with variable frequency drives, air handling unit with variable frequency drive for combustion air, electronic combustion control systems, centrifugal feed water pumps with variable frequency drives, two-element drum level regulators, a de-aerating/condensate storage tank, reverse osmosis system with a 500 gallon storage tank, Ecolab direct chemical feed system, regulatory valves, governors, low water cut-outs, flow meters, gas analyzers, two 10,000 gal. per hour capacity sodium zeolite systems and an air compressor with dryer.
• Preventive Maintenance & Repairs on Boilers and Auxiliary Equipment
  • Incumbent is responsible for preventative maintenance and repairs on all boilers to include cleaning and touch up painting, making regular tests of boiler water samples, adding chemicals and blowing down boilers as necessary to maintain recommended boiler water chemical composition.
• Safety Device Testing
  • Perform safety device testing as indicated in directives, manuals, standard operating procedures, ect. and maintain records of production and other data pertinent to reports as required.
• Monitor Enunciator & Alarm Panels
• Preventive Maintenance on VA Vehicles & Equipment
• Preventive Maintenance/Customer Service for DAV Vans & GSA Vehicles
• Other duties as assigned

The duties of the position may include but are not limited to:

• Incumbent operates one or more types of patient transport vehicles, including emergency vehicles, patient transport vans/buses and other types transport vehicles, capable of carrying up to 8 or more passengers, to and from VA Medical Center facilities, private healthcare facilities, and other private sector areas like patient homes, railway, bus stations and airports.
• Incumbent drives predetermined and/or scheduled routes or special runs. Arrives at and departs from pick up and discharge points at scheduled times.
• Operates the doors to allow passengers to enter and leave the vehicle. Read installation maps and judges road/traffic conditions to determine the shortest and safest route.
• Provide friendly, polite, and courteous service. Enforce passenger safety and seatbelt use. Check I.D. cards to ensure authorization of passengers as required.
• Responsibilities are to safely transport patients in a manner that minimizes disruption to personnel and ensure maximum comfort during travel.
• Knows and abides by rules, laws and traffic regulations pertaining to state laws.
• When transporting patients, the incumbent must be able to load and unload patients safely.
• Makes trip to medical facilities, homes, railway, bus stations and airport.
• Use multiple variations of Mobile Data Computer (MDC) in and out of the vehicles for assigned trips and duties daily.
• Employee required to deal with patients, families of patients, charge nurses, doctors and other medical staff in a professional and courteous manner.
• Incumbent loads and unloads patients, medical supplies and may be required to perform other duties as assigned.
• Incumbent may operate a stretcher van, 1-ton wheelchair van, a passenger van, a large passenger bus, Dual Use Vehicles and other vehicles as assigned and needed to transport patients.
