Major duties include, but are not limited to:

• Operates and unloads two 400-pound washer/extractors, one 200-pound washer extractor and two 85-pound washer extractor.
• Loads and operates two 200-pound dryers and one 100-pound dryer, utilizing the overhead rail system.
• Cleans all dryer lint screens and canisters routinely, thus reducing energy consumption.
• Receives, weighs and records bulk soiled linen from hospital and three contract suppliers.
• Weighs and sorts soiled linen using the automated sorting system.
• Places soiled linen on the overhead rail system by using the pneumatic controls on the lift station.
• Occasionally performs dyeing and stain removal.
• Does manual and automatic loads of fabric requiring special handling such as fiberglass, mops, dust mops, plastics, uniforms, nomex, and other materials.
• Operates a diesel or gasoline powered vehicle equipped with either an automatic or a ten-speed transmission and a hydraulic lift. Vehicle has a gross weight of 12,880 pounds and is capable of carrying loads weighing up to 7,000 pounds.
• Gathers, assembles, consolidates and lifts bags of soiled linen into carts at all souled linen collection areas within the Medical Center.
• Loads carts of clean linen onto the truck at the clean laundry dock, delivers these carts to all linen distribution points and returns all empty linen carts to the laundry for restocking.
• Adheres to established delivery schedules and time frames when completing deliveries.
• Performs routine cleaning and maintenance on vehicle and equipment and reports other maintenance or repair needs to the Textile Care Manager or Work Leader.
• Required to assume the duties of a laundry worker, so that all hospital needs can be met on a timely basis.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Major duties include, but are not limited to:

• Incumbent is responsible to the Supervisor Laundry Operations Specialist for assuring that the work assignments of the other employees of the section are carried out.
• Distributes and balances the workload among employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization. Assures timely accomplishment of the assigned workload.
• Monitors progress of work and makes day to day adjustments in accordance with established priorities. Obtains assistance from the Supervisor Laundry Operations Specialist as needed.
• Incumbent maintains records of work accomplishments and prepares production reports as required.
• Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques.
• Gives on the job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices in conjunction with training program provided by the Supervisor Laundry Operations Specialist, with strong emphasis on safe work habits.
• May operate all power equipment, washer/extractors, dryers, or any laundry related equipment in the absence of the regular machine operator to cover any vacant positions due to vacations, sick leave, etc.
• Leads other employees in daily assignments and monitors the quality of work being performed.
• Incumbent approves leave in the absence of the Supervisor Laundry Operations Specialist.
• Informs employees of available services and employee activities.
• Resolves informal concerns 'of employees and refers others to the Supervisor Laundry Operations Specialist. Reports to the Supervisor Laundry Operations Specialist on performance, progress, and training needs of employees and on disciplinary issues.
• Makes suggestions to Supervisor Laundry Operations Specialist as requested concerning promotions, reassignment, recognition of outstanding performance, and personnel needs.

• Incumbent assumes total responsibility in operation of laundry during absence of the Supervisor Laundry Operations Specialist due to vacation, sick leave, training and trips off station.

Duties for the position include but are not limited to:

• Handling the controls for starting, stopping, backing and driving the vehicle through unfavorable weather conditions, heavy traffic, and unsteady roads.
• Determining the shortest and fastest route in making delivery/pickup from sharing agreements and judge hazardous conditions appropriately so as to select alternate routes.
• Loading cargo onto vehicles by use of docks or hydraulic lift without causing injury to him/her or others.
• Inspecting vehicle to recognize maintenance issues that need repair.
• Having knowledge of all linen and uniform items stocked by type, fabric, size, etc.
• Maintaining an organized system for storing and disbursing items must be understood to properly rotate items.
• Identify misuse or improper storage arrangements as set forth in station policy.
• Utilizing his/her own initiative in assuring that routine tasks are completed satisfactorily and within the time frames assigned.
• Ability to stand, walk, turn, bend, and lift in the performance of assigned duties.
• Pushing and pulling heavy cargos on and off the vehicle to include linen carts.
• Utilizing a one-and-a-half ton truck, gross vehicle weight rating (GVW) of 12,000 lbs., for the transporting of textiles back and forth.
• Ensuring proper loading of vehicles so that it is not overloaded and linen carts or other cargo is secured.
• Performing preventative maintenance on equipment and submitting word orders.
• Checking all fluids and fuels as needed and required.
• Assuming the duties of the Laundry Machine Operator or performing other duties assigned by the Textile Manager.
