Job Title: Manufacturing Explosives Technician

Location: Glasgow

Role:  Full Time

Hours: 4 day week Monday-Thursday / 37 hours per week

Due to demand we’re looking for an experienced Explosives Technician to join our Optronics and Missile Electronics [OME] business unit in Glasgow.  With good experience in explosives processing, handling and safety you will be carrying out various assembly and testing tasks within the Explosives Lab following work instructions and engineering drawings where required.

The roles are based out of our Glasgow manufacturing site.  You will work a 4 day week Monday to Thursday and work 9.25 hours per day. 

What you’ll do….

Comply with legislative stipulations and organisational health, safety, environmental policy i.e. Explosives Regulations 2014 Contribute to activities to prevent fire and explosions. Preparing and setting up an explosives processing lab and equipment. Preparing explosives for processing and storage tasks in line with work instructions and operating procedures. Undertaking routine disposals of explosives

What you’ll need…….

• Excellent knowledge of the safe systems of work in regard to explosives.
• Good working knowledge of processing and handling of all types of explosives.
• Understand and interpret work instruction sheets (W.I.S.)
• Experience in explosives/weapons testing.
• Ability to understand standard explosives safety procedures i.e. HAPTM checks, environmental considerations.
• Ability to perform complex mechanical assembly of products in an explosives environment.
• Experience building electronic assemblies.
• The ability to interpret drawings and wiring diagrams.
• Reasonable level of I.T. literacy.
• IPC (J-STD) qualified not essential but highly desirable
• Eligible to obtain full SC clearance.
• To perform complex Manufacturing operations in accordance with the associated documentation provided to the quality standards expected in a timely and professional manner.
• To adhere to the defined Company processes when carrying out all tasks
• Performs self-assessment and approval of products
• To input and support any continuous improvement actions being worked on within Industry
• To be able to detect any fault or non-compliance and if necessary raise the alert. In addition when able should contribute to diagnostics and the finding of the cause/root analysis
• To manage and record build configuration of product
• To use the company tools (ERP, Palma etc.) when carrying out product assembly tasks
• Participating in the improvement of the explosives processing area and processes
• Undertaking activities to ensure free from explosives (FFE) certification.
• Participating in the generation, review or evaluation of Explosives standard operating procedures.

Our Opportunity

You will be working within the large manufacturing team within OME (Optronics and Missile Electronics) to deliver Industrialisation activities and support through production and reporting into the Manufacturing Engineering Management team.

As part of the role you will utilise and adopt techniques, including but not limited to the following, at different times depending on the phase of the product lifecycle that you are working on:

• Estimating to support bids, including direct and in-direct costs and schedule capabilities
• New Product Introduction (incl. MRL, PRR, FAI, DFx, Tooling and Test Equipment)
• Reviewing the Engineering definition file and creating and approving the manufacturing file
• Define the process of assembly and test
• Managing Non-conformance and Engineering Change in production
• Monitoring product costs
• Working alongside a Workcell/APRU Manager to deliver to target KPI’s
• Identifying and implementing improvements using various Lean techniques

About You

You will need to be self-driven and have attention to detail as well as having the following:

• Experience of Manufacturing Engineering processes within a similar environment
• Excellent team player and communicator. Able to work effectively within and across a variety of different teams.
• Strong relationship builder, able to successfully manage stakeholders at different organisational level of Industry
• Flexible team member and a fast learner
• Focussed on meeting deadlines with good time management and prioritisation skills
• Educated to degree level in a relevant Engineering discipline

• Able to read mechanical, optical and electrical drawings. 

• Working to class 6 cleanroom standards.

• Strong analytical and diagnostic skills and be able to work as part of a team.

• Input and support any continuous improvement actions being worked on within industry

• Manage and record build configuration of product

Position: - Manufacturing Operator (Back-Shift)

Location: Templecombe

The role:

Due to demand we’re looking for a number of experienced Manufacturing Technicians to join our Maritime Mission Systems business unit in Templecombe.

It would be brilliant if you have experience in wiring, soldering and building electrical assemblies, as you’ll be performing manufacturing tasks in accordance with appropriate engineering drawings and documents.

The hours:

You'll be working out of our Templecombe manufacturing site as part of a new shift we're implementing.

You will work 9.25 hours a day 4 days a week (Monday to Thursday). The start time is 3:30pm and finish time is 12:45/1:00am in the morning.

There is a 15% uplift offered for this shift pattern, across the working hours.

What you'll do:

• Produce on time and to quality manufacture of Electrical assemblies

• Escalating blockers and issues to team Leader

• Escalating Health and safety issues to team Leader

• Ensuring 5S standards are met

• Ensuring any quality non-conformances are logged and escalated

Experience required:

• Experience in wiring - but not essential

• Proven experience in building electrical assemblies and sub-assemblies

• Previous soldering experience is ideal

• The ability to interpret a build pack (drawings and wiring diagrams)

• Eligible to obtain full SC clearance at UK eyes only

Electrical Manufacturing Engineer

We have a great opportunity for an Electrical Manufacturing Engineer to join our Integrated Airspace-protection Systems (IAS) team in Belfast.

Key responsibilities

On a day-to-day basis, you’ll be involved in:

• Working as a member of a multi-functional team during the industrialisation phase to ensure robust Electrical Manufacturing Processes
• Supporting APQP activities as part of the industrialisation phase
• Supporting the industrialisation of NPI programmes supporting & carrying out manufacturing readiness.
• Production support to ensure production issues are resolved in a timely manner
• Shaping departmental and functional processes.
• Liaising with other engineering departments to ensure design intent is implemented fully and a high quality product delivered.

About you

Ideally, you’ll:

• Have an HNC (essential) and/or a degree (preferred) in an engineering discipline
• Possess prior experience working within manufacturing
• Have demonstrable work experience in Mechanical / Electrical assembly processes
• Have a working knowledge of product life cycle phases i.e. feasibility, development/design, manufacture, customer support, APQP
• Possess excellent numerical skills with a good mathematical background
