We have an exciting opportunity for a Systems Operator to join our team on the prestigious Skynet contract. This role will assist with maintenance and network engineering tasks within a Satellite Communications environment. The role is a shift position providing 24/7 technical support to the Network Operations team. This will include working a formally rostered pattern which includes weekends and Public Holidays in addition to Night Shifts. We are looking to attract applicants who are adaptable, highly self-motivated with a desire to learn new skills and who relish a challenge. This is a permanent position within Serco that would ideally suit applicants from a technical background or keen interest in Space activities.
Main responsibilities of this role include:
- Assist with scheduled Operational and Network Support tasks.
- Undertake fault monitoring and rectification activities, maintaining records and reports of work completed.
- Assist with preventative maintenance tasks on the equipment within the ground station.
- Assist with unscheduled tasks as detailed by the Shift Supervisor or Network Management Team.
- Administration and scheduled daily tasks.
What you’ll need to do the role:
- Knowledge of a Physics or General Science subject, with an interest in technology or electronics.
- Good verbal and written communication skills ideally including GCSE or Level 3 Maths and English.
- Be able to work as part of a close-knit team.
- Capable of manipulating and understanding spreadsheets, and word processing applications.
- Holding a UK Government SC clearance is a mandatory requirement for the position. Successful applicants will be expected to achieve this clearance as a condition of appointment into the role.
