The Opportunity

The Essex Property team is responsible for managing the Essex County Council's (ECC) £1.7bn estate, which covers approximately 350 buildings and around 1,500 sites ranging from residential care, waste, country parks, schools and corporate offices. In the Midlands region of this business, you'll be one of the more experienced project leads with significant investment in your career to progress past the Senior Project Manager role into Contracts Manager and upwards. You won't ever work more than an hour from home and your salary will be reviewed every 6 months. In order to be eligible, it is essential that you have main contracting experience as a project lead.

We are currently recruiting for a Civils Project Manager for one of our clients operating in the Swindon areas.

Our client are a family-owned heavy civils contractor, primarily working in the waterways, environmental, water infrastructure, and district heating sectors.The ideal candidate will be a Project Manager, or experienced Site Manager looking to take the next step. Candidates must have strong experience in the self-delivery of civil engineering schemes.

Reporting to the Contracts Manager you will be responsible for several sites and be part of a delivery team that includes the Works Manager, Quantity Surveyors, and procurement department. You will be expected to manage your own time to make provision for regular site visits, and attending meetings as required. The company has a flexible approach to off-site working, which can be carried out either at one of their offices, or at home if you prefer.

Your core duties will include:

* Pre-construction activities such as early contractor involvement, tender programmes, and value engineering for build only, and design and build packages.
* Responsibility for the programme, cost, and value of your live projects.
* Liaising with the client to ensure projects run smoothly, and relationships are maintained..
* Updating the construction Programme to show progress and to demonstrate change.
* Monitoring and managing the health and safety compliance of the project.
* Preparing the Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) and monitoring its completion.
* Managing and supporting the Site Managers, Engineers, and Supervisors on your projects.
* Co-ordinating the temporary works, and planning safety critical activities, e.g. crane lifts, floating plant, piling, pressure testing.

Your skills experience and qualifications will include:

* Design and build experience
- Good IT skills.
* Excellent time management skills.
* The ability to work as part of a team.
* Minimum 5 years' experience in the management of civil engineering.
* CITB SMSTS or NEBOSH equivalent.
* CSCS card.

The following attributes would be advantageous:

* HND, Degree or similar in Construction or Civil Engineering.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Project.
* CITB Temporary Works Co-ordinator.
* Experience of interesting or unusual temporary works and access solution.
* Environmental awareness training.

Are you looking for a very exciting opportunity in Brighton as a Project Manager? This new contract is starting in April 2024. This client is looking for a candidate who has experience working in the civils industry such as railways and infrastructure. This contract is for a very respected tier 1 contractor who is starting doing projects in the Brighton area. This is a freelance contract.

Day Rate (CIRCA) - GBP380.00 - GBP420.00

Duration - Ongoing

Location - Brighton

Duties will include:

• Manage and supervise the site workforce of a range of disciplines
• Prepare estimates and quotations
• Managing programme of work and issuing reports
• Motivating the team to complete projects on schedule
• Ensuring RAMS are prepared, reviewed, briefed and updated continuously
• Running health and safety audits as well as developed the HASEMP scheme (Health, Safety, Environmental Management Plan)
• Ensuring that the site team complies with site rules and regulations while monitoring the quality of their work
• Procurement of materials needed and subcontractors
• Direct labour resource
• Collaborating with clients, suppliers and other stakeholders across the supply chain to ensure that all aspects of the project proceed as planned
• Liaising with the Commercial team to forecast project costs and ensure everything is within budget
• Maintaining equipment and manage paperwork

Requirements:

• 5 years of Civils experience
• CMCS/EUSR
• SMSTS
• Working knowledge of the NEC contract conditions
• Several years' experience in Site Management
• Ambitious and dynamic personality
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to lead a team
• First Aid
• Valid Full UK Driving Licence
