Who Are We?
Not just another building society. Not just another job.
We're the fourth biggest building society in the UK and what makes us a bit different is that we're a mutual organisation. We don't have shareholders; we're owned by our members.
Our colleagues say Skipton's a great place to work, and you could be one of them, bringing with you new ideas on how we can keep customers at the heart of what we do.
Whatever your background, and whatever your goals, we'll help you take the next step towards a better future.
We are looking for an enthusiastic self-starter with a curious mind and the ability to motivate others to achieve complex and challenging goals.
This is an exciting time to get involved; we are currently re-shaping what our team looks like for the future, making sure we are adding the most value to the Society.
What’s In It For You?
Skipton values work/life balance and we are proud to support hybrid and flexible working, where possible. We have a newly refurbished head office which offers a vibrant and collaborative working space.
We have a range of other benefits available to you including;
- Annual discretionary bonus scheme
- 25 days standard annual leave + bank holidays + rising 1 day per year of service to a maximum of 30 days
- Holiday trading scheme allowing the ability to buy and sell additional annual leave days
- Matching employer pension contribution (up to 10% per annum)
- Colleague mortgage (conditions apply)
- Salary sacrifice scheme for hybrid & electric car
- A commitment to training and development

- 3 paid volunteering days per annum
- Diverse and inclusive colleague networks available for you to join including our Carers and Pride Alliance groups
- We care about your health and wellbeing – we provide a range of benefits that support this including cycle to work initiative and discounted gym membership
What Will You Be Doing?
Reporting to the Head of Society Financial Planning, Stress Testing and Reporting you will support in the delivery of the monthly accounts, engaging with stakeholders across the wider finance function to produce segmental business performance and report through to the Board.
You will have the opportunity to further develop your knowledge of our statutory accounts process, liaising with external auditors and provide your expert opinions to conclude on new accounting requirements. Integrity of the financial statements is key, and your role will be fundamental in the maintenance of a strong control environment.
This role requires high attention to detail as you will be responsible for ensuring the quality control over financial transactions, ensuring they are in line with internal policy, accounting standards and best practice.
The ideal candidate will have the technical expertise to be the subject matter expert for complex accounting areas, such as IFRS9, and experience relating to the application of model governance policy. In addition, you’ll be comfortable taking ownership of key month end tasks, such as balance sheet reviews, maintenance of the fixed asset register, lease accounting database and cost management. You will also be a point of contact for external auditors.
Although the majority of this role is working with data and numbers, you’ll also balance this with building excellent relationships with your team members and stakeholders to ensure effective communication around processes and procedures.
What Do We Need From You?
You will use your strong technical accounting knowledge with experience of operating in a similar role to influence a range of stakeholders through a collaborative approach.
The MI you produce will inform strategic decision making, so you will use your excellent communication skills to deliver this information in a way that is relevant for our leaders and concisely explains the impact on the Society.
You will be able to motivate colleagues in a commercial environment, aligning accounting and regulatory requirements with commercial objectives.
You will have attained a professional accounting qualification e.g. ACCA/CIMA/ACA with Post Qualification Experience and have a strong working knowledge of finance systems (Workday is desirable) and Excel.
