What is the Role?
The Major Projects team within Distributed Energy is responsible for the professional management and delivery of high value and complex projects.
Working for the Project Director - the Senior Project Development Manager will be an exciting role responsible for shaping propositions and to help secure contracts and partnerships with public and private sector organisations across the UK. The role will involve bringing together areas of different expertise across Distributed Energy and will heavily involve close working with internal stakeholders, experts and external partners to ensure the proposition is developed in line with our customers' needs and our strategy.
The role is client facing through the proposition/bid phase leading on the proposition development, that is suited to the clients' needs. You will manage multi vector, multi discipline teams across a matrix structure, along with supporting teams to ensure that propositions/bids are delivered on time and propositions that are developed are financially viable and signed off by the business. You will be responsible for achieving internal approvals in line with SSE and business governance processes.
The role requires a long term perspective to deliver a 5 year business plan and provide 20+ years of investment return to SSE.
Key Accountabilities
- Ability to develop commercial and contractual materials to support the negotiation and contracting phase of the development of smart energy opportunities and projects.
- Developing sophisticated perspectives on integrated energy systems taking into consideration policy & regulatory requirements, energy technology costs, value available from flexibility markets and inputting to the development of cash flow models to demonstrate value to the customer.
- Preparation of concise and clear integrated energy systems propositions that translate into a language that the customer understands whilst also reflecting the complexity of the energy markets being addressed.
- Ownership of key assumptions and inputs to complex analytical models. Ability to translate these for energy systems modellers.
- Monitoring the market to identify emerging technologies and solutions which SSE can exploit.
- Bring client drivers and market intelligence to all propositions/bids in this sector.
- Working closely with colleagues across business verticals (Distributed Generation and Storage, EV, Heat, Private Networks, Energy Solutions Group, and Digital Services), to build and develop propositions that meet clients' needs and maximise cross-business capabilities.
- Direct responsibility for ensuring propositions/bids successfully transition from initial bid to contract signature stage.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
- A background in Distributed Energy systems with knowledge and experience in identifying, on-boarding and working with partners to scope, build and deliver complex projects.
- You will be a proven leader of project teams across a range of disciplines where you have brought together and managed large, complex propositions.
- You should have strong communication skills and the ability to communicate well across all levels of seniority.
- You will be entrepreneurial, driven and flexible. Inquisitive and able to challenge convention and challenge results.
- You will be educated with a relevant degree or with substantial real world experience.
