You will be joining our Kernowflex (Bank) as cover for our security team, as such you will be one of our valued officers whose role will be to assist the Royal Cornwall Hospital provide excellent healthcare to our inpatients and outpatient while they are using our services.

During your assigned shifts - Your primary role will be to police our hospital entrances during night-time periods to ensure we maintain a secure hospital environment 24/7. You will also be available to provide support, help and guidance to our patients and visitors to ensure that their time with us is a safe and trouble-free experience. Working closely with medical and nursing staff you will be part of the team who will help them to enjoy their working experience by always being available to provide support and protection to them when they are called on to work with patients who become troublesome or demanding due to their medical condition. You will possess an approachable manner and be courteous and knowledgeable when communicating with hospital users. Decision making will be one of your strengths when called to attend and provide support with difficult situations which can either be intentional acts by volatile individuals or problems caused by clinically related challenging behavior. You will need to have excellent communication skills both verbal and written and be able to demonstrate a reasonable level of IT literacy.

As a Kernowflex (Bank) Security Officer, you will provide a wide range of duties which will require a customer focused approach. Predominantly your duties will be to police our hospital and to provide a timely response to support patients, visitors, members of the public and hospital staff across a broad range of issues. To support you in carrying out these duties each officer will be expected to successfully attend the Physical Intervention Training qualification course. You may also undertake the normal wide range of general security tasks which will include (but not be limited to) high profile guarding and patrol duties, key holding, locking and unlock procedures, responding to and managing incidents including potentially volatile situations. Your duties will require you to hold a current, clean full UK driving license and hold a current SIA license and/or be willing to work towards achieving a Healthcare Security Officer’s qualification. This post will also require a DBS check. You will receive a full range of induction and training into the Trust and your work.

Our existing shift pattern is 07:00 to 19:00hrs or 19:00hrs to 07:00hrs but as a Kernowflex (Bank) Security Officer you may also be offered part shifts throughout this shift pattern

The Role: This is a full-time fixed term post with a salary of £,30,639. Please note that this is a training contract starting the beginning of September 2024. For internal candidates, this is a secondment post for one year and for external candidates, you will be given a fixed term contract by Cornwall Council to undertake a one-year full-time course to complete the Post Graduate Diploma in Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) in School Nursing at University West of England (UWE). About The Role
We have a vacancy for a Security Officer to join our team

You will be working on any 5 over 7 days, on a permanent full-time basis, 07:00 to 07:00, 48 hours per week.

Your main responsibilities may also include:

• Acting as a first line support to employees and visitors to site, providing a professional and friendly service.
• Fire, security and building systems monitoring.
• Service area barrier control and traffic management.
• You will ensure that assigned tasks are completed in a professional and timely manner and meet relevant legislations.
• Assisting retailers to deter crime and managing undesirable individuals, sometimes dealing with conflict.
• Working with various stakeholders such as the BID, Council or police to ensure a safe shopping centre.
  
• Deal with queries and resolve problems. CCTV queries to go to the Control Room.

To succeed in this role you will need the following:

• Experience of working within the Security Industry is an advantage
• SIA licence is essential
• DS/SG License is required
• Ability to work on own initiative
• CCTV Licence would be desirable/advantageous
• A professional demeanour with sound judgement and integrity
