Senior Network Administrator – System Processes, Methods and Tool Support

Thales Canada Defense and Security, in partnership with MODIS and KWESST, has recently been awarded a contract to support, sustain, operate, and evolve the Information Technology Information Technology Infrastructure and Engineering Environments used by Department of National Defence (DND) DIRECTORATE LAND COMMAND SYSTEMS PROGRAM MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE ENGINEERING FACILITY team. More specifically, supporting the Software Engineering Facility Local Areas Network (DSEF) LAN, manage and support activities related to DLSCPM test environments including various unclassified and classified test lab environments, and at various service levels; and support any additional communities of interest and technical environments as required.
In support of this program, the Network Administrator will be responsible for administering one or more computer networks that employ a broad variety of hardware, software, applications, operating systems and environments. This role is also responsible for monitoring and managing network performance and availability, including but not limited to troubleshooting and resolving network connectivity and performance issues.
Key Areas of Responsibility
As a Network Administrator, you will be responsible for the following:
- Managing the configuration of the network(s);
- Maintaining network hygiene;
- Monitoring and managing network security, including but not limited to firewalls, access control lists, antivirus tools and intrusion detection systems;
- Installing, configuring, patching and upgrading processing, storage, networking, end-user and peripheral equipment, including but not limited to virtualization technologies;
- Installing, configuring, patching and upgrading network software, including but not limited to enterprise antivirus or diagnostic programs;
- Installing, configuring, patching and upgrading server-side core software, including but not limited to WindowsServer, SQL Server, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft SharePoint;
- Implementing and maintaining backup and restoration systems for mission-critical network servers;
- Regulating user access to devices, services and files;
- Providing end-user support;
- Provides oversight and direction to a team of employees in accordance with policies and procedures;
- Leads employees to meet the organization and customer’s expectations for productivity, quality, continuous improvement, and goal accomplishment; and
- Performing any other related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience as a Network Administrator on Military Command and Control systems
- Minimum of 1 year of demonstrated experience in the preparation of technical concept documents, system specifications, and technical proposals in the field of Information Technology / Information management or engineering.
- Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience in participating in multidisciplinary teams in the development and support of IT tactical systems or multi-site Enterprise Networks. Leading teams in the development of network systems, frameworks or strategies.
- Previous experience with leading teams in the development of network systems, frameworks or strategies.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Technical:
- Planning, installing, managing and implementing network architectures;
- Windows 2003 Server or higher system administration;
- Managing TCP/IP, Network file system, and name servers;
- Microsoft Exchange Server administration;
- SQL Server Administration;
- SMS Server Administration;
- Preparing and implementing network policies and procedures;
- Managing network personnel and Networking security;
- Managing Internet services (e.g. web servers, ftp servers, etc);
- Gateway, bridge and router management; and
- Management and security of systems connected to the Internet.
Behavioral:
- Previous experience in creating and managing high performing teams
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proven problem solving and analytic skills with a track record of successful outcomes
- Recognized for ability to engage stakeholders at all levels of the organisation and externally with customers.

Education:
- Proof of STEM diploma (2 year minimum) in networking, software, computer, systems, electrical, or a suitable engineering or technical field required to support Land C4ISR.
Special Position Requirements
This position is primarily based in a customer location or will require regular travel to and from one or more customer sites to perform the essential functions of the position.
