The Intelligence and Cybersecurity Diversity Fellowship (ICDF) Program is a Congressionally-mandated program designed to help DHS recruit, retain, and reward the best and brightest. The program provides qualified students opportunities to work alongside highly skilled intelligence and cybersecurity professionals at DHS, gain hands-on technical experience, interact with experts and peers at professional development events, and expand their professional network. This program is funded by the DHS Office of the Chief Human Capital Officer.

Typical work assignments include, but are not limited to:

• Assisting with public-facing cyber outreach and engagement.
• Supporting the overall work of the office ensuring smooth operation, proper delivery of services, and effective customer support.
• Assisting with the generation of program source codes using various computer languages.
• Assisting with network monitoring and incident response.
• Applying hardware and software updates to systems.
• Researching cybersecurity tools and techniques.
• Assisting with the analysis of cybersecurity programs and researching new solutions for emerging cyber security threats.
• Assisting with the analyzing and evaluating security log data.

• Obtain a bachelor's degree in a STEM, IT, cybersecurity, or intelligence field;
• GPA of at least a 3.2 on a 4.0 scale;
• Completed 480 hours of work at the Department;
• Participated in designated technical and core training;
• Collaborated with subject matter expert mentors in intelligence and cybersecurity; and
• Completed a challenge project (as designated by the agency).

As a Student Trainee, your typical work assignments may include the following:

• Formulating and recommending contract approaches.
• Performing technical and process analysis of operational tasks.
• Developing legal briefs and participating in legal sufficiency reviews.
• Evaluating and providing draft documentation on compliance and legal requirement reviews.

What You’ll Get to Do:

Range of tasks include answering phones, greeting visitors, copying, mail processing, closing files, maintaining files and the calendar system for assigned attorneys which accurately keeps track of due dates for pleadings, hearings, Court appearances, meetings and other deadlines.

Review files and documents for a variety of criminal or civil cases to become familiar with the issues and identify pertinent material.

Establishes and maintains an effective system of compiling, indexing, and organizing this information and its sources.

Participates and assists in preparation for trial by compiling, organizing, and indexing various evidentiary exhibits. Marks and identifies trial exhibits and drafts a list of exhibits to be offered at trial.

Prepares narrative summaries and other documentation.

Maintains electronic case files which are organized, current, accessible, and retrievable and maintains integrity of data inputted into the case management system.

Types correspondence, pleadings and a variety of documents for the assigned AUSA’s cases, as well as communicates with other agency personnel.

More About the Role:

In addition to performing functions of Document Management Technician, as described below, performs moderately complex litigation support tasks, including, for example, detailed review and analysis of case materials in a broad range of subject matters, such as financial records, health care materials, and other litigation files; detailed indexing of case files; drafting procedures for accomplishing litigation support assignments; document acquisition related tasks; and conducting database searches.  Proofreads and edits deliverable products.  Sometimes serves as "team leader" for larger group of Document Management Technicians and clerical support staff.  Often works with minimal supervision.  Reports to Task Supervisor or Project Supervisor. 



You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

One year of experience on major litigation support projects or undergraduate degree.  Certain assignments may require experience or substantial undergraduate coursework in, for example, finance/accounting, health care, or substantial experience in the legal environment or in information technology.  Demonstrated ability to work independently in a team environment.  Must have excellent writing skills and oral communication capabilities. Requires hands-on familiarity with the Government's office and network environment, including but not limited to, data processing environments, including office automation networks, PC-based databases and other applications, internet and server-based databases and other applications, such as Oracle, Relativity or other document review platform, Trial Director, etc. Should be a knowledgeable user of the Government's office and network environment, including but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheet, imaging, and hardware systems.
