Public Affairs Officer Job Overview:

Embark on a meaningful journey with a homeless charity as a Public Affairs Officer for an All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG). This role is a unique opportunity for a seasoned professional well-versed in the intricacies of parliamentary and political procedures, particularly with a strong background in APPGs. As a corner stone within the charities dynamic policy and campaigns team, you will spearhead the activities of the APPG, playing a pivotal role in organising impactful events and contributing to strategic public affairs initiatives.

In this critical position, your expertise will be instrumental in shaping policy decisions, fostering stakeholder relationships, and advocating for substantive change in the landscape of homelessness. The role encompasses hybrid working arrangements, affording flexibility while necessitating occasional attendance at the charities head office in London. Your contributions will extend beyond the routine, influencing the narrative around homelessness and driving tangible progress.

Salary: £156 per day (PAYE) [£40,500 Full Time Equivalent]
Location: London, Hybrid (required to travel to Westminster for parliamentary briefs)
Contract/ Start Date: Temporary 4 Month contract / 4th January Start Date.

Key Responsibilities:

• APPG Secretariat: Oversee the management of an APPG, ensuring strict adherence to Parliamentary rules.
• Event Planning: Take charge of coordinating APPG Parliamentary events, from meticulous content development to securing engaging panellists.
• Programme Development: Collaborate on the formulation of yearly work plans, draft pertinent papers, and maintain the APPG website with relevant information.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Establish and nurture a robust network of stakeholder support both inside and outside Parliament.
• Policy Development: Actively contribute to strategic public affairs initiatives through the APPG, including the drafting of impactful policy reports.
• Advocacy in Parliament: Promote the APPG by recruiting members and passionately advocating for its policy recommendations.
• Government Announcements: Lead the development and coordination of responses to government announcements on homelessness on behalf of the APPG where appropriate.

Required Experience:

• Comprehensive knowledge of parliamentary and political procedures, demonstrated through experience in running APPGs.
• Proven track record in planning and delivering successful policy and political events.
• Familiarity with delivering evidence-based policy solutions through policy projects.
• Exceptional organisational and time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
• Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral, enabling effective engagement with diverse audiences.
• Proven ability to work cooperatively as part of a team, coupled with the initiative to work independently when required.
• Previous experience in successful public affairs influencing activities, underscoring a commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
