Overview:
The mobile plant operator plays a critical role in the mining operations by safely and efficiently excavating or loading material to be loaded into trucks and pushing up stockpile material. The position requires a high level of skill, attention to detail, and adherence to safety protocols to ensure the smooth operation of mining activities.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct pre-operation checks and routine maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
• Operate excavator or front-end loader to move, load, and stockpile mined material.
• Follow standard operating procedures for equipment operation and material handling.
• Efficiently excavate mined material into a windrow or load material into haul trucks with precision to maintain continuous workflow.
• Follow instructions and guidelines to support mining operations and achieve production targets.
• Ensure materials are handled in a way that minimizes spillage and waste.
• Monitor material quality and report any issues to the Mine Site Supervisor.
• Adhere to all safety regulations, guidelines, and protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
• Always wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Participate in safety training and contribute to safety meetings and initiatives.
• Keep the machine and cabin area clean and organized to ensure safe and efficient operation.
• Assist with the maintenance and repair of equipment as needed.
• Keep the wider work areas clean and organized to ensure safe and efficient operation.
• Monitor and adjust operations based on feedback and performance metrics.
• Identify and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and productivity.
Requirements
• Certificate III or equivalent qualification is preferable.
• 2 – 3 years of experience operating loaders or similar heavy equipment in a mining or construction environment.
• Proficient in operating front-end loaders and understanding of their mechanics.
• Strong knowledge of mining operations and material handling techniques.
• Ability to perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work positively within a team.
• Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.
• Construction Industry White Card and ability to pass induction assessments. A “C Class” licence is critical, a HR or HC licence is preferable.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to operate machines for required time each day and carry out occasional physical task, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
• Ability to work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat.
• Capacity to operate equipment on challenging terrain.
Work Environment:
• Work is performed at the company deport and at times on a mine site, which may involve exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions.
• Must be able to work flexible hours, including shifts and overtime, as required by mining operations.
