This position is located in a Federal Bureau of Prisons federal correctional facility, in the Special Investigative Services Office.

Serves as an assistant to the Special Investigative Agent (SIA)/Special Investigative Supervisor (SIS) and is responsible for providing assistance during investigations, developing reports, preparing correspondence, maintaining evidence, and computer support.

Assists the SIA/SIS in conducting investigations of inmate violations of BOP prohibited acts of various severity levels, such as assaults, introduction of contraband or narcotics, possession of money or currency, communicating gang affiliation and/or participating in gang activities, and other prohibited activities. Investigations can range in length from several hours to weeks or months depending on severity.

Along with all other correctional institution employees, the Special Investigative Services Technician is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. Serves as a training instructor in a vocational or occupational training program in the Education Department of a Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) correctional facility and may also serve as a program coordinator for other vocational/occupational training programs.

Selects and/or develops curriculums which focus on the appropriate vocational training area.

This position has direct responsibility for the delivery of classroom training for vocational and apprenticeship courses in the field/trade of HVAC.

Develops a curriculum design and record-keeping system to organize and track student progress through identified course work.

Ensures the training program(s) are implemented and delivered in compliance with Bureau policies, Department of Labor, and Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training regulations, and the standards established by other certifying agencies and organizations.

Serve as apprenticeship program coordinator with responsibility for coordinating the various occupational training programs and classes, as well as responsibilities which include development, review and evaluation of the vocational trades program.

The incumbent shares with the Executive Leadership Team a level of responsibility for the direction and management of the healthcare system and is directly responsible for all facilities operations. The incumbent has direct line authority and leadership responsibility for all administrative operation support services. The incumbent participates on a day-to-day basis in top level executive discussions, decisions, policy making and actions of all administrative functions and indirectly of all clinical matters impacting patient care.

The Associate Director is responsible for taking an active leadership role in coordinating and developing customer and stakeholder support and resourcing to meet objectives of the healthcare system. Develops collaborative partnerships with stakeholders and makes program execution decisions that affect or determine long range courses of action of critical importance. The incumbents managerial duties and responsibilities involve final decisions which have a direct and substantial effect on the health care organization and programs related to facility operations. These include, but are not limited to decisions affecting the nature, scope, quality of, and emphases on, the facility's patient care programs and activities.

Has institutional oversight responsibility for insuring the legality and duration of confinement of commitments to the custody of the Attorney General.

Accountable for all functions of the above referenced offices which include the intake and releasing systems, physical processing of inmates, prevention of the introduction of contraband, safeguarding and disbursing of inmate personal property, judgment and commitment records maintenance to include archiving, review sentence computations, security and control of records, ensuring the mail room staff process and deliver inmate mail and packages within prescribed time frames, coordination of prisoners' transfer, oversight of data systems.

Maintains liaison with the U.S. District Courts and D.C. Superior Court, other committing agencies, local law enforcement agencies, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), U.S. Postal Service (USPS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), U.S. Parole Commission (USPC), and many other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

Conducts inspections and on-site surveys of all hospital areas of the facility to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and procedures related to hospital housekeeping and infection control principles.

Participates in the Infection Control Committee meeting and presents environmental sanitation concerns, signification findings, and/or problems related to environmental sanitation and housekeeping.

Maintains records and reports regarding environmental sanitation conditions and concerns as required by the Joint Commission (JC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the American Correctional Association (ACA) along with state and federal regulatory agencies.

What are the Major Duties of this Position?

Under the supervision of the Captain, serves as a shift supervisor in the Correctional Services department, giving supervision and guidance to subordinate staff of correctional officers involving work performance, interpretation of policy, handling of problems concerning the inmate population. In emergency situations, takes prompt and decisive action to determine the nature and cause of the emergency and authorizes changes in institutional operations when necessary to meet emergency situations.

Responsible for implementing post orders, conducts training classes related to correctional procedures, responsible for enforcement of all rules and regulations relative to custodial security of the institution, investigates reported violations of prohibited acts, (i.e. assaults, escapes, introduction of contraband, disturbances or other illicit activities), taking appropriate actions as dictated by the seriousness of the violation. May periodically be assigned as supervisor of a BOP bus in transporting both committed and U.S. Marshals prisoners to and from institutions and jails.

Responsible for security of the special housing unit and the safe, secure housing of all inmates within the unit. Responsible for maintaining and documenting the various programs within the unit, i.e. feeding, recreation, unit sanitation, personal hygiene and medical. Responsible for the care, custody and security of offenders who have been placed within the Special Housing Unit.

Performs a variety of network device configuration and connectivity tasks. Executes procedures and coordinates corrective action to optimize network performance. Installs, configures and monitors tested and evaluated software packages that provide performance measurements of the WAN/LAN. Implements the standard configuration software loads for all network devices. Utilizes benchmarks and performance measurement and evaluation data to manage network servers and data communication devices to support normal and surge workload. Works with technical support personnel in resolving critical problems. Uses remote management software tools to maintain and update configuration, protocol and user/system files. Documents and tracks change to configuration, protocol and user/system files. Executes appropriate action to ensure backup processes are completed.

Evaluates the performance of network devices such as servers, workstations, and peripheral devices, and remote access systems. Coordinates the development and implementation of configuration management plans for complex LANs and WANs with supported elements to include headquarters staff elements, tenant activities, state government, regional operating activities and national agencies. Implements plans and procedures for remote installation of applications and upgrades using state of the art software distribution methods. Monitors distribution of applications and upgrades ensuring compliance with regulations and copyright laws.

Implements procedures to ensure accurate records of authorized users of distributed software are maintained. Implements the standard operating procedures for all devices on the network. Reviews and evaluates proposed software. Provides input to briefings and presentations on the complexities of the installation networks. These briefings provide the basis for long-range decision planning relating to C4 network project management. Analyzes equipment and software reliability and utilization reports to identify and define problem areas and to establish end-to-end systems performance levels.

Independently conducts group guidance sessions of a varying nature. This counseling deals with institutional adjustment, U.S. Parole commission, release planning, and interpersonal communications, individual counseling sessions varying in methods and intensity relevant to the individual's problems. They may focus on helping the individual offender understand and live within the complex family circumstances and assist him in developing new adjustment techniques. The Case Manager helps the offender view problems objectively and to deal with them realistically. Routinely deals with community resources to secure information and develop release plans. Prepare special progress reports for such consideration as parole, transfer, restoration of forfeited good time, and makes appropriate recommendations. Corresponds with attorneys, judges, probation and parole officers and other professionals regarding the inmate's case.

Prepares diagnostic studies, responsible for collecting, interpreting and evaluating factual information reflecting developmental and circumstantial factors for the assigned caseload of inmates. Acts in a liaison capacity with other units and institutional employees on matters concerning inmate behavior. Serves as the primary liaison with the U.S. Parole Commission in reporting the inmate's program progress, readiness or lack of readiness for release, and resources in the community relevant to the desirability of his release. Actively develops program planning by presenting cases to the Unit Team and coordinating case management services with other correctional disciplines.
