Pay Rate: £20.85 per hour PAYE
Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours
Role Length: This opening assignment is for 4 months
City: Exeter, Devon
The purpose of the role is to lead on the screening of planning applications received by the council and to co-ordinate the Environmental Health and Community Safety response. This includes coordinating appropriate attendance at Development Committee Screening meetings and Committee meetings as required.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the Service Lead on matters relating to air quality.
Oversee the operation and calibration of atmospheric pollution monitoring stations(s) and review the monitoring programme/network.
Undertake the inspection and monitoring of premises in accordance with the provisions of environmental permitting regulations and any future legislation covering the same, drafting and issuing permits and undertaking enforcement action if necessary.
Deal with complex matters such as audits, regulatory returns, reports and complaints arising around relevant areas of environmental health legislation.
Qualifications:
BSc/Diploma in Environmental Health and EHORB Certificate of Registration or other relevant science or maths degree or equivalent professional qualification in the field of noise/air quality monitoring or contaminated land.
Able to demonstrate up to date training and knowledge through CPD certificates.
Skills & Experience:
Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
A minimum of five years Local Government experience in the area of noise/air quality monitoring or contaminated land.
Experience of managing complex projects and heavy workloads.
Possess good project and team management skills.
Experience of providing evidence-based policy advice to decision makers.
Practical experience of researching, preparing and conducting campaigns/educational initiatives.
Knowledge of Environmental Health and the issues which affect Environmental Health policy.
Practical experience in general environmental health enforcement.
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
Full UK driving licence required for this role.
