Serco have a new and exciting opportunity for a Junior Network Engineer to join at TCS Oakhanger in Bordon. We are a Remote Tracking Station providing mission support to the United States Space Force (USSF) as part of the Satellite Control Network. Reporting directly to the Technical Delivery Manager, you will work with the Network Engineer to maintain IT systems and networks. You will help develop secure and available site IT systems and provide both software and hardware support for all IT resources.
You will also provide administration and IT support for all site IT users, ensuring IT systems are compliant and IT infrastructure installations and modifications are updated as required when working with external stakeholders.
Main responsibilities of the role include:
- Provide a “Help Desk” function for users
- Ensure the IT department responds to incidents and tasks in a timely manner
- Control and administer the issuing of computer media
- Provide assistance with operational software systems
- Ensure USSF IT systems are protected from virus and malicious attacks
- Develop custom applications and scripts for site use
- Develop IT related training guides and work instructions
- Perform Base ITEC functions
- Develop and Maintain network drawings and documentation
- Open and progress REMEDY incidents as required
- Develop and maintain base wide Wi-Fi/broadband network
- Obtain and maintain COMPTIA Security+ qualification through the “Continuing Education” program
- Maintain an up-to-date software inventory database
What you’ll need to do the role:
- Level 3 IT qualification or equivalent experience in Computer Network and IT Engineering
- Where there are gaps in skills and knowledge, Serco will facilitate additional learning for the right candidate
- Full Driving licence and a willingness to drive company vehicles
- Be able to maintain and obtain a SC Clearance
- Hold (or achieve) COMPTIA Security+ certification
- Microsoft Server Implementation and administration (Supporting Windows Server 2012/2016/2019 core technologies)
- Good knowledge of cyber security concepts including PKI authentication and encryption techniques.
- Experience in MS Windows Server and Workstation operating systems and associated application packages
- Experience and knowledge of Cisco iOS software and devices
- Experience of network infrastructure including routers, switches and security appliances.
- PC software/hardware support
- Good knowledge of Internetworking concepts (DNS, VPN’s, mail etc.)
- Working knowledge of Linux/Unix based server systems
- Knowledge of virtualised environments and virtual networking concepts
- Knowledge of network (Cat5/6) and fibre optic cabling techniques.
- Knowledge of cloud computing and network technology.
- Knowledge of web applications, web app development and SharePoint administration
