What you will be doing
The Application Support Engineer is responsible for the support and maintenance of CIBC’s On-Prem, hosted, and cloud applications and interfaces from both a technical and business perspective. The role works on the day-to-day support through troubleshooting complex issues and delivering quick solutions.
This role will be partnering with the business to champion their needs and requests. Also, collaborate with vendors, developers, architects, and cloud and infrastructure specialists to gather requirements and conduct research for new, upgraded, and enhanced technologies.
Moreover, this role will coordinate and/or perform designs, installations, configurations, and system testing producing deliverables related to specific projects. Also, responsible for assisting Compliance and Security to ensure systems are functioning in accordance with Bank standards.
Work Arrangement: At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. To successfully perform the work, you’ll work in a hybrid environment with the expectation to be onsite at least 2 days per week while the other days may be remote.
How you will succeed
Troubleshooting and Technical Skills – Work closely with key business and technology partners to ensure that business and internal client impact issues are well understood, addressed, and resolved. Utilize Incident and Problem Management to effectively resolve incidents and find root causes. Participate in Major Incidents and Disaster Recovery events completing tasks and collecting evidence.
Systems Implementation and Maintenance - Lead and/or coordinate technical research, design, configuration, testing, and integration of cross-functional, multi-platform application systems. Perform application changes utilizing the change management process. Ensure adherence to all regulatory and information security standards and policies are maintained in all aspects of the application management. Plan and implement certificate creation/renewals as needed.
Relationship Management - Build strong relationships and partnerships with technical team members, clients, vendors, and peers. Lead discussions, listen, and ask the right questions to ensure needs and issues are identified and recommend/implement solutions resolved. Express oneself and communicate with others verbally at an advanced level; recognizing that verbal communication is more than just language - it includes tone, style, and structure.
Project Work - Provide technical guidance concerning the business implications of technology projects. Modify, enhance, and/or create solutions to meet business requirements. Analyze proposed application designs and provide feedback on potential gaps. Review, plan, test, and implement system upgrades and enhancements. Review system patches and updates by vendors to ensure minimal system impact. Plays an integral role on project teams producing quality and timely deliverables. Perform testing of solutions before moving to production.
Who you are
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in an application support role, 1 to 3 years of business experience in banking.
- Experience with using ITIL Change, Incident, and Problem management processes.
- Coordinating the production support needs.
- Responsible for documentation such as deficiencies, deviations, application flow diagrams, SCM plans, etc.,
- Problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills required.
- Experience with workflows, forms, and/or reports
- Familiarity with cloud technologies such as Azure.
- SQL query writing and File integration experience are a plus.
- Validate and submit responses to requests for information from audits.

- Digitally savvy; innovative, embrace evolving technologies; easily adapts to new tools and trends.
- Solid collaborator: Support and mentor intermediate analysts
- Preferred Formal Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
