Operations Director - Off Highway Platforms - Derby Area - Attractive - Permanent - Engineering

An Operations Director is required to join a market leading Innovative Industrial an Off-Road Systems Company that is over 90 years old and is a leading UK supplier with significant growth expectations, so an exceptional time to join the organisation. The Operations Director will be Reporting to the Managing Director/Executive. The Operations Director will be responsible for the Engineering Operations of a small but growing company, manufacturing platforms for Industrial Systems and related off-road products for the rail and mining sector. The products and size of platforms range dependent on project and end client and are powered by Diesel, electric, battery or hybrid technologies. The Operations Director will work with the Managing Director/Executive to facilitate a growth plan that delivers a greater customer reach to meet increased turnover/profitability demands and expectations whilst nurturing a culture of continuous improvement across specific areas of the business. Operations Director - Essential Criteria

• Degree in a related subject (BEng, BSc) - Membership of a relevant certified body or possession of an appropriate Management Qualification is desirable.
• Able to demonstrate a strong commercial and operations management background.
• Proven record in a similar role within an industrial/manufacturing or engineering environment.
• Extensive experience defining and managing best practice financial and operational management.
• Experience of successful management budgets and projects.
• Ability to build strong relationships both internal and external.
• Experience of customer and stakeholder management.
• Demonstrate full understanding Health and Safety practices.
• Understand and be able to create Risk assessments and Method Statements.

Operations Director - Key Responsibilities and Experience Required

• Liaise with the Managing Director/Executive to make decisions for operational activities and set strategic goals.
• Plan and monitor the day-to-day running of business to ensure smooth progress.
• Evaluate regularly the efficiency of business and operational procedures according to organisational objectives and apply improvements as required.
• Manage procurement processes and coordinate resources allocation appropriately
• Oversee customer support processes and organise them to enhance customer satisfaction
• Review financial information and adjust operational budgets to promote and improve profitability.
• Revise and/or formulate policies and promote their implementation.
• Manage relationships/agreements with external partners/vendors.
• Evaluate overall performance by gathering, analysing and interpreting data and metrics.
• Ensure that the company runs with legality and conformity to established systems.

Hours and Holidays

• 37 hours/week
• Some Hybrid/WFH working and flexi hours available if needed
• 7.30 - 16.00 Mon to Thurs
• 7.30 - 12.30 Fri
• 25 days + 8 statutory holidays

The Chief Mechanical Engineer will be part of a small but growing team, working on designs for Industrial Systems and related off-road products for the rail and mining sector. The products and size of platforms range dependent on project and end client and are powered by Diesel, electric, battery or hybrid technologies. This Chief Mechanical Engineer opportunity is a chance to join a team that is close working with all employees, including the Directors, Engineers and support personnel.

Chief Mechanical Engineer - Essential Criteria

• Degree in a related subject (BEng, BSc) - Mechanical or Product Design Engineering
• Experienced within an engineering and product design environment.
• Ability to lead a team of engineers.
• Ability to liaise with the electrical engineers and other departments
• Commutable to the South Derby area.

Chief Mechanical Engineer - Key Responsibilities and Experience Required

• To mechanically design products in 3D, including 2D detail production drawings.
• Update existing designs, in conjunction with the electrical design engineers.
• Supporting the technical author as required.
• Able to work with an ERP system (Microsoft NAV or similar).
• Able to work with associated Bills of Materials.
• Skilled with 3D CAD (ideally Autodesk Inventor or Similar).
• Skilled with hand calculations and FEA Design experience.
• Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and large fabrications.
• Experienced with a low volume product experience.
• Able to Support production with technical enquiries.
• Preferred Industrial, Rail or Off-Road product design experience

Your new role

In this key position you will manage and oversee ecological aspects of projects, advising clients on schemes such as mixed use and residential developments, minerals/waste projects, infrastructure and energy projects.

Day to day activity will include:

• Preparation of fee proposals and scope of works, report writing and technical review of peer and sub-contractor reports.
• Supervision and mentoring of ecology staff. Depending on skills and experience, the role may also include staff management and leading work on particular ecological specialisms.
• Scheduling, managing and ensuring delivery of complex ecological survey work packages on time and budget, using in-house and occasionally sub-contractor staff.
• Liaising with other technical teams on a variety of subjects including planning, landscape, hydrology, noise and air quality whilst working closely with senior members of the ecology team in other offices in the UK and other regions.
• Seeking opportunities through coordinated business development to expand ecology and other services and capabilities in the region.
• Your role will involve working with other team members located across the UK and other regions, depending on client/project sites and your expertise.

What you\'ll need to succeed

You should have an ecological specialism, whether it is; habitat survey, protected species, ornithology or another skill, plus be able to demonstrate competence in a range of different areas of ecological consultancy practice, able to lead and mentor others in their chosen specialism. Ideally you will also be able to demonstrate experience of business development, client and project management, preferably gained in a commercial consultancy environment.

In addition:

• Demonstrable field survey skills, including surveying UK habitats and survey and mitigation design for protected species.
• Demonstrable competence in project management, planning work in line with health and safety procedures, budget management and technical report preparation.
• A track record in project winning, delivery and management.
• Work experience within a range of sectors including residential/mixed use, infrastructure, minerals and waste, and energy.
• Relevant degree level qualification plus appropriate level of membership of CIEEM or equivalent
• Full UK driving licence
