Are you a skilled and experienced software engineer with a passion for science? Do you want to work on exciting projects that support world-class research using X-ray technology? If so, you might be the perfect candidate for a software engineer position at a leading scientific facility!
As a software engineer, you will be part of a team that develops and maintains the software that manages the access and allocation of beamtime for external users.
You will be responsible for:
- Working with stakeholders to identify user requirements and design solutions.
- Developing and testing Java and Python enterprise level software that meets specifications.
- Using CI/CD to release and deploy software to enterprise servers following an agreed process, including database integration.
- Supporting production systems, actively investigating and resolving incidents, interacting with staff and external users.
- Implementing interfaces to internal and external independent systems. Advising other service owners regarding how to interface with the system.
- Resolving reported bugs in the system; and working with the team lead and science stakeholders to ensure they are fixed in a timely manner.
- Producing and maintaining documentation that describes system operation for its users and advising them on system use.
- Investigating new software development tools and techniques and advising the team on how they might be used.
To be successful in this role,
- You will need to have a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
- You will also need to have proficiency in Java and Python programming languages, and familiarity with web development frameworks and tools.
- You will also need to have experience with CI/CD, relational databases, web-based graphical interfaces, system integration, software testing, software documentation, software quality assurance, and agile software development methodologies.
- You will also need to have excellent communication and collaboration skills, and a keen interest in science and technology.
