This position serves as a vital part of the JJP VA Medical Center Police and Security Services often serving as the face of the VA and as the first person a Veteran or visitor encounters when entering a VA facility. The position provides security and assistance to Veterans, patients, employees, contractors, volunteers, affiliates, visitors, and others who frequent VA facilities daily. Major duties and responsibilities include:

• Provides physical security support for Veterans Health Administration, Veterans Benefits Administration, National Cemetery Administration and Veterans Administration Regional Office (VHA/VBA/NCA/VARO).
• Assists in evaluating risk and developing procedures and physical security measures designed to safeguard personnel, property, and operations from unauthorized access, espionage, terrorism, sabotage, damage and theft.
• Ensures security requirements, including appropriate safeguards, cameras, panic and intrusion alarms are implemented.
• Performs law enforcement assignments to prevent or resolve offenses: books the accused; takes the accused before the appropriate District Court or magistrate; confers with the prosecutors; appears before the grand jury upon request; appears at preliminary hearings; and/or testifies at trial, if needed.
• Responds to reports of a crime in progress and/or calls for police assistance.
• Initiates appropriate actions to pursue and apprehend offenders who are leaving the scene of a crime or who attempts to resist arrest. Subdues individuals causing disturbances. Identifies and arrests violators based on eyewitness accounts. Takes charge at crime scenes restricting access to only those persons required to be present.
• Performs bomb search functions as required. Coordinates such search activities with the local bomb squad.
• Assists in managing the Security Program for the Medical Center/Health Care System which ensures that individuals requiring access have been vetted.
• Collects information and prepares reports on the facilities compliance with VA operations, regulations Physical Security and Physical Access Control Systems (PACs).
• Meets with key customers and coordinates with officials to assess customer satisfaction, explain organization policy and procedures, and resolve problems that arise.
• Develops various physical security-related documents, spreadsheets, graphs, reports and presentations using various automated systems and software packages, including the Veterans Health Information and Technology Architecture (VistA) System, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint to enter, access and retrieve information in the medical center computer system.
• Maintains a Physical Security Tracking report to ensure physical security surveys are followed up promptly.
• Monitors and evaluates existing present and planned security projects to ensure timely and quality service conforms to statutory, contractual and technical requirements.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Major Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Operates a multi-trunk console located within telecommunications section of the Police Service
• Handles a wide variety of calls - local, long distance, overseas, and facility emergency calls
• Disperses callers rapidly and professionally to proper party or service within Medical Center - all callers must be treated courteously and assisted in a timely manner
• Responsible for the monitoring, testing, and recording the results of varying alarms and systems
• Responsible for the proficient operation of several complex computerized functions which include, multi-channel radio systems, closed circuit television system, and fire alarm system
• Handles incoming calls approximately 50% of the time, identifying location of clinics, units, and staff members
• Monitors a complex security closed circuit camera system that focuses on numerous locations
• Performs other related duties, including clerical, as assigned

• Directs, coordinates and/or performs a variety of supervisory and non-supervisory policing law enforcement assignments and projects
• Schedules all officers for all required training related to the performance of their duties including the initial and ongoing weapons training for all assigned Police Officers
• Plans, schedules, and conducts training classes and coordinates classes conducted by subordinate Police Officer Training Instructors
• Provides written reports relevant to training and proposes new ideas for the enhancement of the police training program
• Plans, coordinates, and reviews policies and standard operating procedures regarding law enforcement and security operations for implementation to be used during training sessions
• Recommends course modifications and reviews courses for technical accuracy and adherence to established lesson plans
• Performs supervisory duties that include making employee assignments, monitoring the status and progress of the work, performance evaluations, approving leave requests, etc.
• Serves as a lead on and personally conducts investigations, apprehensions, or detention of individuals suspected or convicted of offenses
• Patrols and responds to a variety of criminal activities requiring law enforcement intervention and makes independent decisions to take/direct/coordinate immediate steps to preserve life and property
• Performs law enforcement administrative duties, including preparing and monitoring the budget, overseeing equipment needs, reviewing and overseeing daily and monthly activity, crime, and accident reports and plans for various criminal and traffic operations, reviewing incoming correspondence, and providing responses
• Performs related duties as required.

2.5. Develops and implements a plan in conjunction with the patient/family to meet learning needs, and involvement in basic health teaching and discharge planning.

3. Documents the nursing process.
3.1. Documentation is consistent, accurate, concise, and timely.
3.2. Evaluates and documents patient response to interventions and progress towards attainment of goals and expected outcomes.
3.3. Revises plan of care according to evaluations of patient's responses and outcomes.
3.4. Uses the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) and the Bar Coded Medication Administration (BCMA) software per policy.
3.5 Completes all assigned clinical reminders in a timely manner.

Provides technical expertise for the State ARNG Safety and Occupational Health Management Systems (ASOHMS) within the broad framework of statutory public law, DOD, Army, and National Guard policy, goals, and objectives. Executes resources for personnel requirements and safety programs necessary to support program goals, objectives, and directives. The Physician Assistant is a professional with advanced clinical knowledge and competence to function in a variety of roles. The incumbent is regarded as the technical authority within the VA HVHCS on assigned core sanitation, consolidated laundry, textile management, grounds keeping, landscaping, and waste management programs. The incumbent is the direct supervisor to a GS-12 Hospital Housekeeping Officer, and one program support staff at GS-7 grade. Work is reviewed based upon results obtained in supporting the VA HVHCS' mission and meeting specific program goals and objectives.
