This position is assigned to the Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MHRRTP) within the Behavioral Health Service Line (BHSL) as an Addiction Psychiatrist. The Physician, MHRRTP provides direct patient care including comprehensive Psychiatric assessment and treatment to Veterans within the MHRRTP. The Physician is highly desired to have completed an internship/fellowship in Addiction Medicine and has received a Board Certification in Addiction Medicine.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Provides direct patient care including comprehensive psychiatric assessment and diagnostic services for Veterans with a broad range of psychopathology receiving care within the MHRRTP, including services for patients with complex psychopathology requiring advanced diagnostic and intervention skills.
- Provides direct patient care through education to patients and family members regarding Behavioral disorders and best practice approaches to treatment.
- Provides direct patient care through comprehensive assessment of Veterans at imminent risk of harm to self and/or others (including grave disability), and facilitates admission for acute psychiatric hospitalization.
- Provides direct patient care through evidence-based pharmacotherapy with evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions as indicated and appropriate. This includes remaining up to date on all requirements for prescription of withdrawal assisted medication therapies and medication reconciliation.
- Provides educational group services within training and scope.
- Provides clinical and/or administrative chart reviews, screenings and discharge summaries as assigned.
- Provides direct patient care through the ordering, monitoring, and responding to all necessary laboratory and radiological assessments.
- Responsible for the initiation of appropriate health care consults and referrals for all direct-care patients as applicable.
- Provides consultation to health care providers about assessment findings and treatment plan for all direct-care patients to ensure that care is coordinated, collaborative, and integrated within the Medical Center.
- Develops, implements, and documents within the Behavioral health treatment plan for all direct-care patients as indicated and appropriate for the specific job setting and duties of the psychiatric provider.
- Complies with all Service Line documentation requirements, including standards for timely completion of documentation within the electronic health record (EHRM) including but not limited to: patient contact notes, use of required documentation templates, clinical reminders, treatment plans, and risk assessment protocols.
