Communication and Relationship skills To maintain confidentiality of information regarding children, young people, families and individual staff at all times Provide and receive complex or sensitive information To work within and promote collaborative and partnership working, with both colleagues and the client group To promote and maintain effective communication and positive working relationships throughout the Unit and wider services, both internal and external to CAMHS To promote and maintain effective communication and positive therapeutic relationships with children, young people and families To act as an advocate for children young people and families To attend and participate within regular Unit meetings To liaise with and report issues, concerns or untoward incidents to the nurse in charge, deputy / Unit Manager, CAMHS Tier Senior Nurse Manager or the on call CAMHS Manager Knowledge, Training and Experience To have RMN / RN (Mental Health) or RNLD / RN (Learning Disabilities) registration and use this knowledge in the daily care of children, young people and families To carry out the duties as directed by the NMC and within the Code of Professional Conduct Able to assess, plan implement and evaluate programmes of care for children, young people and families who require a day unit service. Act as a preceptor / mentor for newly registered staff nurses and student nurses. Identify own personal and professional needs through the personal development review and clinical supervision process. To ensure that personal mandatory and statutory training requirements are met in accordance with Sheffield Childrens NHS Foundation Trust policies. Develop skills and knowledge in assessing clinical risk and its management and are able to interpret client clinical presentation information and take appropriate action. Develop skills and knowledge in the safe administration of medicines including those that are classed as Controlled as per Trust policies. Analytical and Judgement Skills To contribute to the analysis and decision making in relation to client and environmental risk and care in complex situations In conjunction with colleagues analyse children, young peoples and families immediate presentations Planning and Organisational To coordinate the nursing activity over the span of a shift To act in the role of care coordinator / named nurse for individual children and young people In conjunction with colleagues devise care / treatment plans To incorporate planned interventions and treatments into the care of children and young people and families over the duration of a shift. Physical Skills Carry out nursing procedures requiring highly developed physical skills where accuracy is important. Demonstrate and maintain skills in basic life support To be trained in and utilise techniques and strategies for the safe physical management of children and young people To participate in physical activities with children and young people e.g. badminton, football and fitness To have basic key board / I.T. skills to effectively use and input data to CAMHS information systems, use of email, the intranet and internet Responsibility for Client Care To ensure that all clinical records or documents completed are both accurate and legible and that the requirements under data protection and confidentiality are maintained Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care / treatment plans for children, young people and their families. To work collaboratively with colleagues for the benefit of children, young people and families To ensure that due regard is given to children, young people and families customs, values and spiritual beliefs. To act in a facilitative manner which promotes children, young peoples and families dignity, independence and choice To act in the role of Named Nurse for identified children and young people for a small caseload Contribute to the maintenance of a child and family friendly environment at all times. Contribute to the maintenance of a safe clinical and workplace environment, by assessing risks over the span of a shift Where required provide escort to children and young people e.g. as part of therapeutic leave / specific interventions, transfers and day trips Where identified and agreed by the post holder provide transport via driving the Unit mini bus (subject to completion and passing of the prescribed mini bus test) Participate in, provide and utilise clinical supervision to enhance practice Responsibility for Policy / Service Development Comment on the development and implementation of policies and procedures within the Unit. Contribute to the development of the Unit Responsibility for Financial and Physical Resources Follow procedures for handling client money / property Ensure that the client environment is kept tidy and free of hazards Ensure that equipment is stored appropriately and safely Responsibility for Human Resources Provide clinical supervision and preceptor / mentor junior staff and student nurses. To plan the deployment of nursing staff across the span of a shift, utilising effective delegation skills To have an understanding of the relevance and use of Human Resources policies Responsibility for Information Complete client records accurately, using both paper and computerised systems To ensure that records and documentation are maintained with regards to legal requirements, confidentiality and information management and in line with Trust, national and NMC guidelines. Responsibility for Research and Development To contribute to the development of nursing practice within the speciality. Utilise interventions based on sound research findings and evidence based practice. To assist in multidisciplinary audit projects / surveys within the clinical area. Freedom to Act Work is supervised, with additional tasks / responsibilities delegated by a senior colleague Work with allocated children, young person and families under supervision of a senior colleague. Coordinator care over an individual shift Be aware of and adhere to Trusts policies and procedures. Ensures continuous registration with the NMC and adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and be accountable for your own practice. Physical Effort An occasional requirement to exert intense physical effort for a short period during a shift e.g. the physical movement / containment of children and young people Sitting for extended periods. Mental Effort To respond quickly and effectively to the unpredictable workload of the Unit and the different levels of concentration required. Respond effectively to frequent interruptions Emotional Effort Frequently cope with the emotional demands of working directly with children, young people and families involved in distressing situations e.g. distressing life experiences, safeguarding issues and challenging behaviour Working Condition To have rare exposure to blood and body fluids. To be exposed to verbal aggression on an occasional basis.
