This position is located within a VA Community Living Center (CLC) at Papillion - CHI Midlands Hospital Campus, 11111 South 84th Street, Papillion, NE, on the 5th and 6th floors. VA Community Living Centers are a place where Veterans receive extended hospital care and short-term rehabilitation levels of care which includes help with activities of daily living, skilled nursing, and dementia care. This CLC has a total of 33-beds, providing services to eligible Veterans needing skilled healthcare, rehabilitation, or dementia/ neurocognitive support. Veterans stay for a short time (between 30-90 days).

• Shift Differential - 10% of basic pay for work performed during regularly scheduled hours between 6pm and 6am.

• Ensuring that all VA staff members have received discipline-appropriate suicide prevention training (VA S.A.V.E. training or equivalent)
• Collaborating with community organizations and partners to increase awareness of suicide prevention best practices and providing training to individuals who have contact with Veterans
• Providing subject matter consultation to providers on available resources for suicidal individuals, as well as expertise and direction in the areas of system design to prevent deaths by suicide.
• Working with providers to ensure that monitoring and treatment is intensified for high-risk patients while making sure that those who are at elevated risk receive education and support about approaches to reduce risks

Amazing opportunity to serve Our Nation's Veterans as a full time General Cardiologist, at the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa VA Health Care System (VANWIHCS).

Preferred Experience: Must be board certified/eligible by the American College of Cardiology.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

• Generalized duties of a staff cardiologist involved as focus on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of many different heart and blood vessel conditions, including coronary artery disease, heart arrhythmia, high blood pressure, peripheral arterial disease, and heart failure.
• Standard tests are used such as electrocardiograms to make diagnoses. Specialized treatments may include percutaneous coronary angioplasty and pacemaker installation. The cardiologist may confer with cardiac surgeons when major surgery is deemed necessary.
• The cardiologist in this position will include interpretation of transthoracic echocardiography and stress echocardiography, performance and interpretation of transesophageal echo, interpretation of electrocardiograms and stress electrocardiograms, to staff outpatient cardiology clinics, to provide cardiology consult services as scheduled, on both inpatient and outpatient basis.
• This cardiologist will perform cardioversions on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. The cardiologist will serve as the attending physician for cardiology fellows in training.
• A progress note must be entered on all patients cared for by the cardiologist upon consultation, procedure, or clinic visit. Timely documentation is necessary in all areas in accordance with departmental policy, All administrative work should be completed in a timely fashion. Patient record documentation should be entered by the physician into the medical record directly (computerized patient record system -CPRS). Prohibited abbreviations should not be used.
