Summary of the role



The Business Development Manager role leads on the development of collaborations with industry, organisations and government partners within the BioPharma sector. The post holder will support the Sector Head to deliver opportunities for partnership development and impact in line with Exeter Innovation’s Business Engagement Strategy and the University’s Strategy 2030.



The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities to deliver in the role:



Identify, develop and manage opportunities for income generation from internal and external sources towards the institutional target of £200m in 2030, limiting exposure to risk and maximizing benefits to the University.
Develop detailed market research and insights using specialised data bases, analysis of market trends, government strategy and by networking with external advisors, specialists, consultants, potential customers and competitors.
Develop sustainable partnerships with new and established partners with a view to these partners collaborating and/or funding projects with academics across the research and commercial education portfolios.
Management of up to 7 people. May be responsible for supervising associated resources that form part of flexible, cross-university sectoral teams.
Provide the Exeter Innovation interface with one or more Faculty departments. Work closely with Department Directors of Business Engagement and to develop and deliver the BEI strategy and income targets embedded within Faculty plans.
Undertake the role of relationship manager for one or more Strategic Partners, working with the Corporate Partnership team. In addition, identify and liaise with internal and external sector facing networks and organisations
Support a portfolio of Impact Case Studies aligned to sector specialism, through working closely with the academic leads and Research Services.
Advise and lead on the development of applications for economic development, knowledge exchange research and innovation and commercial education; working with colleagues in Exeter Innovation and other Professional Services.
Development of complex costings (and pricing where appropriate) of projects ranging from £10k - £3MM+ using the systems and resources available in the Division.

More detail about the role: The post-holder will be supported to develop into a role where they are responsible for providing specialist clinical expertise to the Wheelchair and Specialist Seating service based at Exeter Mobility Centre (EMC). The wheelchair service has the unique role of treating both adults and children with a wide variety of medical conditions. Covering patients with acute and long-term conditions. You will see adults and paediatrics within the Centre in Exeter and at other locations as necessary e.g. satellite clinics, schools, secure units etc across Devon and Torbay. The post-holder will assess and treat patients with complex postural conditions to provide an appropriate means of mobility and use clinical reasoning to formulate individualised plans. They will triage referrals and ensure caseloads are managed within the contractual timeframes and within budget. Service criteria and the formulary of equipment must be adhered to. Our team ethos is to allow the individuals within our team to thrive and grow as Clinicians. Beyond the clinical opportunities, there are a wide range of opportunities for development including supervision of students. We have an established in-service training programme, with opportunities to attend and present any specialist topics based on your clinical interests. In order to broaden our knowledge and skills we also regularly invite outside speakers to in service training sessions. This is an excellent opportunity for a dentist looking to exercise a high degree of patient care in a setting outside of the typical high street practice. This service provides care to adults and children who are potentially vulnerable, and have additional needs that could not be met in typical high street practice- the role would be well-suited to a dentist who values spending time with their patients and providing care to those most in need. Due to the nature of the role, the scope of clinical treatment is limited to more routine treatments available on the NHS. You will see a mix of both registered patients under the care of the service for all routine dentistry, and referrals (typically from GP) who will attend for a one off, particular course of treatment. Many of these patients at some time or another will require sedation, therefore all clinicians within the service are provided with accredited sedation training, and there will be regular opportunity to utilise these skills.

The service is provided out of two well-equipped dental surgeries situated in a medical centre, and is fully equipped to handle a range of additional needs including a hoist, wheelchair and bariatric bench. In addition to working out of these surgeries, dental officers will also be required to provide domiciliary care to certain patients where appropriate, there would also be travel required occasionally to other parts of the wider county for staff meetings, and training.

This position is an employed role, offering a salary band between £47,653-£71,479 (pro-rata) dependent on experience - candidates younger in their career or new to community care will be well-supported by a well-established network of clinicians, and support staff. Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital.

The Exeter Nuffield hospital is based next to the RD&E hospital in Wonford, Exeter. Exeter is a vibrant cathedral city in the heart of the beautiful county of Devon, situated on the river exe and only 10 miles from the coast. The hospital has 2 theatres, as well as a hybrid cardiac catheter laboratory/theatre and an Endoscopy suite. There are two ward areas: an inpatient area with 21 beds and a day-case ward with 12 beds. We also have an on-site Pathology department as well as a busy outpatient department, health assessment service, pharmacy, physiotherapy, and radiology department including an MRI scanner.
