The staff psychologist is assigned to the Central Texas Veterans Healthcare System Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) located in Austin, TX. The graduate psychologist's primary duties involve initial biopsychosocial assessment, treatment planning, and psychological treatment to Veterans with a wide range of co-occurring disorders, including but not limited to anxiety, PTSD, depression, substance use, and personality disorders. The Medical Support Assistant (MSA) position serves as a Consult Coordinator for Community Care. The MSA works collaboratively with other members of expanded health care teams (i.e., Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT), specialty care) including Community Care providers, pharmacists, social workers, dieticians, behavioral health staff, etc. to provide a robust interdisciplinary approach to care. Important interfaces and collaborations also occur with larger health care system providers including VA and non-VA specialists, hospitals, diagnostic and treating facilities, and community-based programs. The primary duties of the Medical Support Assistant (Advanced) may include but are not limited to:

• Maintains appointment schedules for Community Care.

The Behavioral Health Clinic utilizes a broad range of treatment modalities, and the incumbent will perform a variety of counseling, treatment, assessment, diagnosis and service assignments which requires specialized knowledge in the nature and impact of substance use/co-occurring mental health disorders on the Veteran and family system. The position requires an individual with comprehensive professional competence and judgment. The clinical objectives and activities to be supported by the incumbent include:

• Improved substance use/mental health outpatient treatment.
• Improved mental health assessments, as demonstrated with the use of Measurement Based Care tool, BAM-R/BAM-IOP and case management.
