Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, around 15-16% of all deaths were due to respiratory disease and in 2019 Wales had the highest avoidable mortality rate in the Great Britain for diseases of the respiratory system. Respiratory medicine costs the NHS in Wales more than £400 million per year. Building on the work of the 20222022 Respiratory Conditions Quality Statement, and supporting development of future iterations, the National Strategic Clinical Network (SCN) for Respiratory Conditions will provide national leadership and drive forward change to deliver better quality, higher value, more consistent and accessible services for people affected by neurological conditions. This should take into account workforce challenges and the impact and opportunities of innovation and different ways of working. The post sits within the SCN for Respiratory Conditions and NHS Wales Executive which supports and advises Health Boards and Welsh Government in Wales. The post holder will be a registered Nurse with a focus on community immunisation and health protection support. The individual will work as part of a dynamic team, providing a safe and effective service which will include community vaccinations, testing and health protection support across Cardiff and Vale. The focus for the post holder will be undertaking activities such asclinical assessment, consent, review of complex medical histories and potential adverse reactions. As well as managing the supply and administration of vaccinations across the national schedule ensuring the best possible clinical outcomes by using up-to-date skills and adhering to evidence-based policies and procedures.This post holder will also contribute to the wider health protection support team agenda. This role has a competitive starting salary of £33,103 for 36 hours per week across 42 weeks per year (term time + 3 weeks of holiday working) pro-rata to £35,730 52 week equivalent.

About the Team
Our large and friendly team of Speech & Language Therapists (SLTs) and Speech & Language Therapy Assistants work across mainstream and special schools in Surrey. We are part of Surrey's local SEND offer, working collaboratively with the Inclusion and Additional Needs Team and other areas like Educational Psychology and Specialist Teaching. Our tiered model supports universal, targeted and specialist intervention for children, families and the school workforce; making sure we deliver the right support at the right time to children and young people, with and without EHCPs.

About the Role
The role of a Speech and Language Therapist is varied and no two days will be the same, however you can expect to be involved with the following:

Clinical decision making in conjunction with school staff and evidence-based practice, around the level of support needed to achieve the best possible outcome for the CYP on your defined caseload
Working with Assistants, setting targets for the CYP you are jointly supporting and monitoring the delivery and outcomes of their work
Assessment, advice and intervention for CYP with a range of SLCN within your caseload
Regular time for case-note writing (in line with HCPC standards)
Regular partnership working, including prioritisation and caseload management e.g., autonomy around balancing clinical and non-clinical duties

• You are an NQP or recently qualified SLT who wants to develop their clinical skills with school age CYP
• You possess a degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or about to obtain this)

The setting in which you are based will be wide-ranging too. As a Psychiatric Doctor you may be based in either inpatients or outpatients at Reduce & Replace, or rehabilitation environments. You may need to visit your patients in residential care, prisons, schools, or in their own homes.
