This Veterans Health Administration (VHA) senior leadership position is responsible for oversight and management of the agenda to advance VHA direct and community care access. The Office of Integrated Veteran Care (IVC) is the accountable office for access to care and advises Senior VHA Leadership on all access to care items including oversight, governance, expertise, and leadership related to the Veterans Community Care Program, direct care access initiatives, and financial health. IVC provides oversight and guidance to VHA's network of 1.3 million community providers and to the 6,000 sites of care that are critical to providing Veterans with direct care access. In addition, IVC manages a set of programs that support over 800,000 Veteran family members in reimbursing over $2.5 billion per year for their care.

The Assistant Under Secretary for Health (AUSH) for IVC supports strategies to achieve the three organizational goals: seamless care to Veterans, financial sustainability, and high reliability. This position monitors all IVC budget and productivity improvements and is responsible for strategic and long-range planning of its operational areas and of meeting organizational needs related to access. The AUSH has three direct reports who are T38 senior executives and oversees a team of over 1,100 staff and direct budget of $1.5 billion annually. The AUSH ensures the development, implementation and evaluation of programs, policies, and activities that are national in scope and that influence the overall organizational mission and strategy. S/he initiates, designs, and completes high-visibility national projects to advance VHA's goals. Indirectly, the incumbent advises on strategy and policy that impacts community care spending of approximately $30 billion annually and oversees quality, utilization management, and network adequacy for the community program. As VHA's accountable owner for access to care, the incumbent is responsible for overseeing access to care and scheduling policy, practices, and technologies.

The AUSH for IVC is a Title 38 senior executive who uses extensive leadership skills, communication skills, healthcare/managed care knowledge, healthcare ethics expertise, and knowledge of VA and national healthcare policy to advise, support, and collaborate with the senior executives in VHA.

Duties: This position serves as Supply Technician (Medical) for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Logistics Service within the VA Health Care System. As a Supply Technician, you will provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and material including, but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment.

Major duties and responsibilities include:

• Pulls stock inventory and material for delivery; replenishes stock inventory; interacts with clinical and administrative customers and maintains records on stock levels.
• Communicates to the Lead or Supervisor any concerns related to supplies, equipment and procedures.
• Provides information to customers regarding medical supplies.
• Monitors expiration dates, rotates stock to limit outdates and removes items from use as required by outdates.
• Monitors and controls critical supplies.
• Performs daily inventory using bar coding equipment on a predetermined schedule that will allow for timely replenishment.
• Resolves differences between records and physical count of stock.
• Distributes items according to established or ad hoc requirements in computerized inventory management systems.
• Delivers supplies in a timely manner and ensures supplies and material delivered are in sterile and operational condition.
• Completes specialty cart preparation.
• Cleans assigned secondary areas in accordance with aseptic principles.
• Receives supplies and material into the medical center's catchment area.

Major Duties Include (but not limited to):

1. Arrange major and minor repairs associated with the chiller and boiler plants.
2. Create documents such as Statement of Work, Independent Government Cost Estimates, Responsible Source Lists, and Quality Assurance Surveillance Plans on multiple annual service contracts.
3. Monitor and control the handling and disposal of liquid and solid hazardous materials in coordination with Safety Specialist.
4. Supervise various station level contracts and perform final and progress work inspections on all Operations contracts under $500,000.00.
5. Serve as Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) on multiple service contracts (must obtain COR certification within 6 months of employment.
6. Analyze vendor proposals and service contracts.
7. Coordinate service calls for replacement or repairs.

(c) Appropriateness of the route and method of administration
(d) Degree of patient compliance with the prescribed drug regimen

(f) Clinical and pharmacokinetic laboratory data to evaluate the efficacy of drug therapy and to anticipate side effects, toxicity, or adverse effects
(g) Physical signs and clinical symptoms relevant to the patient's drug therapy
(3) Performs continuous evaluation of prescribed medications to assure optimal drug therapy.
(4) Provides medication counseling to patients.(5) Completes medication histories including patient interviews.

B. Dispensing
(1) Reviews all medication orders for appropriateness, drug selection, dosage, route of administration and the amount, prior to dispensing.
(2) Ensures all medication orders are entered into the electronic patient medical record.
(3) Fills all orders in a timely fashion; review of the patient's allergy history, drug-drug, drug-nutrient, drug-laboratory and drug-disease state interactions and assessment for clinical relevance should be performed and dealt with appropriately.
(4) Reviews medication profiles and monitors for compliance or potential abuse; problems encountered shall be resolved.
(5) Selects, dispenses and fills a range of medications in accordance with facility policies in both outpatient and inpatient areas. Adequate quality assurance procedures shall be followed as applicable.
(6) Maintains adequate drug stock, inspects drug storage areas, supervises prepacking and the operation of automated dispensing equipment.
(7) Supervises the activities of support personnel.
