We have an exciting opportunity for a driven pharmacist to lead on the provision of clinical pharmacy services to the 12 bed critical care unit, recovery units and operating theatres at our Bedford Hospital site, which treats a diverse range of medical and surgical patients requiring multiorgan support. You will also be one of our lead pharmacists contributing to the running of our clinical pharmacy service including line-management and training responsibility.

We are looking for dynamic, organised and motivated pharmacist who has experience in a variety of clinical specialties, including critical care, and will be supported to further develop their skills further in this lead role.

As a GDE site we are a digitally advanced trust with electronic prescribing already in place for inpatient prescribing on our wards and our critical care unit. Part of your role would include supporting, and helping develop, additional digital innovations within critical care at the Trust.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead, develop and provide the day to day service of the established Pre-Operative Assessment clinic on the Bedford site. We are looking for an experienced clinical pharmacist with excellent personal, communication and leadership skills complemented by a strong background in managing surgical patients.

Day to day activities will include reviewing surgical patients to ensure that their medicines are optimised prior to their elective admission and to ensure that there is a clear medicines management plan in place. The post holder will act be part of a clinical team provided to ensure that clinical care of patients and others using the service receive an efficient and quality service. The post offers the opportunity to further develop clinical and non-clinical skills within the team. They will also be encouraged to obtain and maintain ILS and PILS compliance. Ensure that equipment is available and in good working order, being mindful of specialty specific requirements, highlighting any deficits in a timely manner to the Clinical Lead for Anaesthetics and Recovery. Be the first port of call for anaesthetist requests and escalate to the Clinical Lead for Anaesthetics and Recovery if there is a financial implication or a potential for impacting the wider department.. Ensure the safer surgery checklist principles are adhered to, taking the lead if necessary ensuring the presence of the entire team. Be prepared to escalate non-compliance to the Clinical Lead for Anaesthetics and Recovery. Support the Theatre Manager in working collaboratively with Infection Control, Risk Management and corporate nursing to ensure actions from audits and incidents are acted upon and resolved in a timely manner.

Key skills and competencies Candidates must be able to demonstrate: They have a recognised counselling qualification COSRT accredited course plus relationship training from Relate or equivalent (see APEL section of Relate website) Substantive knowledge and experience in implementing assessment, history taking, and formulation plus in-depth knowledge of relevant treatment programs allied to sexual dysfunctions. Willingness to undertake additional training and CPD (Continuous Professional Development) as required by the service Recognised supervised couple counselling practice and/or certificate of proficiency. Experience of working with a range of counselling theories and methodologies. Experience of working within the voluntary sector Experience in assessing client needs and negotiating fees and/or signposting to appropriate provision Skills, abilities and Knowledge Professional and positive approach to work Able to think creatively to support the development of the services offered.
