The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

The incumbent positions the apparatus considering such factors as wind direction, sources of water and hazards from falling structures.
• Operates pumps, foam generators, nozzles, and other similar firefighting equipment. Determines proper pressures for the distances to be pumped and the number of lines being used. Applies principles of hydraulics as they pertain to water flow friction and friction loss. Maintains a constant awareness of water levels in self-contained tanks and warns handline and rescue personnel when tanks are close to running dry.

Major Duties and ResponsibilitiesGuest Relations and Patient Transport:

• The incumbent carries out required performance of this position as transportation program support assistant Guest Relations Program to the Office of Veteran Experience. The program is designed to provide Veterans/patients, their families and visitors with staff who can respond quickly to inquiries, identify problems, and improve the experience of those visiting the campus. The services are designed to respond to customer's immediate needs including navigation, direction, and information assistance.
• As a key challenge for patients, navigating the campus will be a primary focus along with providing a positive first impression. For those who do not know how to access medical center programs and/or services, personal assistance will be provided by the staff. The incumbent serves as the initial, as well as the final point of contact for guests entering and leaving the facility and is a key influence toward patient/public perception. In this role, the incumbent performs these responsibilities using skills that will foster a culture of care at the VA facility. The incumbent is assigned to the Office of Veteran Experience and Employee Engagement.

Major Duties Include, but are not limited to the following:
The Nursing Assistant provides direct patient/resident care in a variety of settings, including acute care units, acute mental health unit, community living center. Incumbent is a staff audiologist with lead program responsibilities and provide back-up administrative functions to the Supervisory Audiologist in his/her absence. The lead audiologist conducts a full range of audiological evaluations to determine the type and degree of hearing loss, determines patients' need for amplification, predicts and measures the effectiveness of amplification, and determines need for and type of rehabilitation and counseling of veterans with hearing loss and their families. • The Physical Therapist's (PT) primary function is direct patient care. Treatment duties include varied and extensive evaluations, treatment and documentation, as well as patient/family education. Incumbent will examine each individual and develop a plan, using treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, prevent disability and improve quality of life. The PT will embrace evidenced based practice standards in diagnosis, examination, management, intervention, treatment and outcome measurements. The licensed PT collaborates across the continuum of care. They ensure services are coordinated, including ordering studies of value and being consumer-centered by referring, co-managing, engaging consultants and independently supervising care. This individual must have knowledge of skills and ability to interact with and provide treatment to patients from young adulthood through geriatric age and be able to fulfill their age specific needs. The population served includes adults and geriatric patients with physical, cognitive, psychiatric disabilities.
• The Physical Therapist functions as an independent care provider within the health care team and will provide clinical oversight for Physical Therapist Assistants (PTA).
• Screens and interprets PT consults using specialized skills and medical knowledge in the evaluation of the patients' medical condition.
• Evaluates the patients' present functional level and disabilities. Ages of patients served at this facility range from the young adult age 20-30, middle aged patients age 30-40, to the elderly or geriatric patient age 60 and older. There is great variance in the developmental needs of these patients. • A therapist at this level will select accurate ICD IO and CPT billing codes. They should identify legal and ethical ramifications of billing incorrectly. The PT must demonstrate understanding and practice documentation and coding practices to maximize reimbursement potential and capture billable RYUs (relative value units).
• Presents contemporary topics/issues using current evidence and sound teaching principles in the form of case studies, in-services, journal article review, etc.; provides educational in-services to PT team, interdisciplinary health care providers and others as requested.

The Physical Therapist Assistant's (PTA) primary function is direct patient care. Treatment duties include a variety of interventions and treatment techniques, documentation as well as patient/family education. The PTA provides treatment that promotes the prevention, remediation and rehabilitation of acute and chronic physical and psychosocial dysfunction. The PTA administers and monitors therapeutic interventions based on goals formulated by the Physical Therapist (PT). • Maintains a safe work environment to include non-technical maintenance of equipment, safety checks cleaning, stocking, etc. Develops safe work habits to prevent injury to patients, co-workers, and self. Reports to Supervisory Physical Therapist the need for equipment or items necessary for patient treatment.
• Maintains a high level of competence through participation in continuing education programs, clinical in-services, and on-line training.

• Inpatient Treatment
  • The physical therapist assistant assigned at the Battle Creek VAMC is assigned a varied caseload. He/she may assists the therapist in the treatment of often inpatients.
  • Has the proper skills and knowledge to recognize special precautions for mobilizing patients that have been bedridden for prolonged periods of time.
  • Assists in monitoring the patient's vital signs (HR, BP, RR) and assists to restore abnormal alterations to normal parameters in accordance with established procedures/protocols/practices.
  • Documents changes orally and written in progress notes.
