General Description of Assigned Duties;

Specific Duties;

This may include data research and entry, program reports, patient lists, accounting and budgetary duties and ongoing responsibility for projects. problems. or requirements that arise within their designated work site. The work will be performed in a timely, professional and courteous manner to sustain quality patient care and customer satisfaction.
• Responsible to operate all necessary applications within FBCS, CPRS and VistA (including but not limited to VistA FEE, Lodging, Admissions, AOD, Caregiver, TCM, MFH and Eligibility Computer Systems as well as ability to work with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Power Point, SharePoint and Excel Spreadsheets).

• Take messages; track call-ins/call-off by other staff members, and notify the appropriate supervisor, they will assess Veterans' needs, assist with the Veteran's situation or redistribute to the appropriate manager, social worker, department, patient advocate, etc.
• Handle consult requests expeditiously or assign to the respective social worker as they are received in the service and log them into the tracker.
• Working with the clinical unit/providers, the PSA will ensure Veterans are screened and approved appropriately prior to social services being rendered.

• Obtain, organize, file and retrieve reports, correspondence, and numerical data for use in preparing status reports, briefings, and presentations i.e. daily AOD log, gain and losses sheets, lodging lists and admission reports, medical records etc. in accordance with all Federal, VA and local policy and guidance.

FUNCTIONS OR SCOPE OF ASSIGNED DUTIES

• Must be available to provide consultation to treatment team and staff members regarding psychosocial needs of Veterans, the impact of the identified psychosocial barrier on the Veteran's health care planning and compliance with treatment and available interventions/programs/services available to assist in resolving identified barriers.
• Identify appropriate VHA/VBA/community resources and facilitate utilization of and linkage to these resources by the veteran and family to assist clientele in reaching optimal functioning.

FUNCTIONS OR SCOPE OF ASSIGNED DUTIES

• Professional social worker assigned to the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT), Referrals typically originate from members of the interdisciplinary treatment team, from Veterans, families, caregivers, guardians, community professionals, and VA Ann Arbor staff members in the form of consults, phone calls, walk-ins, emails, and electronic medical record alerts. Referrals will be managed timely and appropriately using the Outpatient Social Work response protocol(s).
• Possess a working knowledge and experience in use of medical terminology, medical/mental health diagnoses, disabilities, treatment procedures including acute, chronic, and traumatic illnesses, common medications, and their side effects.
• Demonstrates a skill in assessment, intervention and treatment plan development when addressing the comprehensive psychosocial needs of the Veterans .
• Will assess the patient to identifying emotional, social, physical, familial, economic instability, and vocational needs that may be causing distress and impacting the health condition or creating barriers to the patient receiving recommended care/treatment. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The program at VAAAHS comprises of approximately 400 active research projects under 150 active research investigators. Annual research support totals about $18.7M of direct VA support and a total research budget of $25M (including National Institutes of Health [NIH], Department of Defense [DoD], industry, nonprofit, and University funded programs) and the balance administered by the VA-affiliated non-profit research corporation (VA-NPC) Veterans Education Research Association of Michigan (VERAM), and the academic affiliate (University of Michigan). The Deputy Associate Chief of Staff duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Direction & Strategic Planning 40 %

• Has technical and administrative responsibility to provide staff supervision and evaluate all health-related programs and management policies pertaining to the agency. Participates in long-term strategic planning and exercises delegated decision making authority for resource management of the agency's research and development programs and policies and is responsible for evaluating the impact of current research standards on programs.
• The Deputy ACOS/R&D monitors the effectiveness of the interactive systems and procedures necessary to advance the research program in accordance with all principles, rules, and regulations affecting research within the VA. Likewise, the Deputy ACOS/R&D monitors the effectiveness of the interactive systems and procedures necessary to advance the research program regarding NIH, DoD, FDA and other national rules and regulations. The Deputy ACOS/R&D also evaluates research productivity and the contributions of programs to the goals of the VAAAHS and the agency. In this capacity, the Deputy ACOS/R&D exercises oversight of programs, principal investigators, and their staff.
• This position establishes guidelines and performance expectations for principal investigators and their staff, which are clearly communicated through the formal employee performance management system. Other duties include observing and evaluating the performance of principal investigators and their staff, conducting work performance critiques, and providing formal or informal feedback.

• Establishes operating guidelines to implement procedures and methods in delivering services or completing maintenance projects to maintain research program accreditation and to maintain regulatory compliance in all areas of expertise.
• Resolves technical work problems not covered by precedents or established policies.
• Works with other research and medical center staff with a goal of increased patient and customer satisfaction frequently requiring independent assessment of work and facility condition.

• Serves as liaison on behalf of the R&D Service with medical center services and other local and national agencies in all matters dealing with research standards and related issues. This includes representing the R&D on related task forces, at professional conferences, and appropriate meetings. It also includes interactions with the VA Central Office, DoD, NIH, nonprofit foundations, and private industry.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
