The Housekeeping Aid Lead is responsible for leading and overseeing the duties of Housekeeping Aids in the performance of housekeeping related services in the various areas of the medical center.

Major duties and responsibilities will include:

• Is a working leader for housekeeping operations throughout the VA Medical Center(s) and performs the full range of housekeeping duties.

• Develops and provides technical industrial hygiene, public health, occupational safety, and occupational health training/instruction to supervisors, employees, unit health monitors, unit deployment monitors, and/or unit Bioenvironmental Engineering and Public Health program representatives on a wide range of work operations areas, such as Hazard Communication (HAZCOM), Respiratory Protection, OSHA expanded standards, ionizing radiation, lasers, electromagnetic frequencies, noise, public health concerns, bloodborne pathogens, food handling, medical intelligence, thermal stress, and ergonomics.
• Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities for a small subordinate staff, typically 7 or fewer positions.

The NM functions as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team. They influence care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes.

• Supports colleagues and other nurses through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality nursing care. Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals. Contributes professional nursing perspective in discussions with the interdisciplinary team.
• Partners with others to effect change and produce optimal outcomes. Evaluates outcomes of evidence-based decisions and practice changes for individuals, groups, and populations. Responsible for the documented outcomes at the program or service level. Program or service level outcomes must be broad and complex and can be demonstrated at any organizational level within a facility.
