Senior Specialist Speech & Language Therapist - Glasgow

Salary: £46,224 - £53,789 (+£3000 bonus)

Hours: Full time - Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. 35 hours per week

MAIN PURPOSE:

To work as part of an multi/interdisciplinary team providing speech and language therapy (SaLT) input within the Neurobehavioral model to People We Support with acquired brain injury (ABI) and to lead on SaLT provision within the service. To consult with internal and external professionals, family members and People We Support.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* To apply the neurobehavioral approach to brain injury, demonstrating knowledge of current research findings, and best practice in the field.
* To manage and prioritise a caseload of People We Support with complex mental/physical health needs and/or challenging behaviour.
* To use evidence-based practice, service user centred principles and clinical reasoning to assess, plan, implement and evaluate intervention.
* To undertake comprehensive assessments, considering environment, context, and future, of People We Support to formulate appropriate o rehabilitation goals o care plans o communication and dysphagia therapy programmes o referrals.
* To overcome barriers in communication to actively engage People We Support in assessment, rehabilitation, and discharge planning to gain valid informed consent. Where necessary, work within a legal framework with People We Support who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
* To seek consent from People We Support or advocate to include and share information with family, carers, and other stakeholders, respecting everyone is right to confidentiality.
* To provide information about service user's communication abilities and support needs.
* To complete swallowing assessments, providing recommendations, care plans, onward referrals, and training for all staff in the safe management and rehabilitation of dysphagia.
* To be aware of and comply with responsibilities regarding risk management and safeguarding and look for ways to improve, acting as required, helping others to do same.
* To complete risk assessments and find ways to improve health and safety within work area if required.
* To exercise duty of care in all aspects of role.
* To maintain the equipment and inventory within the area of work, informing the service manager of any replacement needs.
* To maintain registration with the Health and Care Professionals Council, complying with their requirements in compiling portfolio.

ABOUT YOU:

We are looking for someone with the following skills and qualities:
* Degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
* Registered with the HCPC
* Achieved Dysphagia Competencies
* A wide range of experience in hospital or residential settings
* Specialist knowledge of SaLT models and interventions in ABI e.g. social communication, cognitive communication, communication partner training.
* Knowledge and experience of speech and language therapy outcome measures.
* Minimum 4 years qualified experience encompassing complex case management.
* Minimum 2 years' experience working with adults with neurological conditions or 4+ years post registration experience in an alternative clinical setting.

As a Senior MSK Physiotherapist at our corporate site in Glasgow, you'll have an active Health and Care Professions Council registration along with a CPD portfolio, reflecting on a wide range of physiotherapy experience with a focus on musculoskeletal physiotherapy and sports injuries. In addition to this, you will have excellent manual therapy skills and will be able to prioritise and manage a varied workload. You're also good with computers and a confident communicator.

HCPC Registration is essential for this role.

As a Senior MSK Physiotherapist, you will work independently as an autonomous, experienced practitioner to deliver high quality physiotherapy care to patients.

Also as a Senior MSK Physiotherapist, you will:

• Undertake assessments in patients presenting often complex musculoskeletal conditions and conditions masquerading as musculoskeletal pathology.

• Appropriately identify patients who require onward referral to advanced level physiotherapists/ consultants or other healthcare consultants including the use of internal escalation pathways for patients presenting with serious pathology.

• Undertake treatment underpinned by extensive clinical knowledge and skills to deliver high quality patient outcomes.

• Maintain relevant clinical skills and provides on-going evidence of personal CPD and Professional registration.

• Manage complex face to face and remote service caseload effectively ensuring cases are discharged appropriately on systems.

• Support colleagues and less experienced members of staff including administration staff and physiotherapy assistant colleagues to enhance clinical outcomes and patient experience.
