Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner programme: In line with the government's priority to increase access and availability of mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people, the role is an exciting opportunity to deliver evidence-based early interventions for children and young people, working across both educational settings and healthcare sectors. We are looking to recruit 4 trainees to join our Calderdale team. Successful candidates will attend an educational programme in Sheffield for two days per week, with the remaining time being spent within schools and the service. The training programme is due to start in February 2025 and is 12 months in duration. Following successful completion of the one-year programme, you will be offered a permanent position paid at NHS Agenda for Change Band 5 salary. All applicants must demonstrate in their application the ability to work at degree level or have an equivalent level of relevant experience, with a proven record of previous learning or formal study in child development, wellbeing or mental health. Delivery of the programme will be provided through a combination of taught days within university, independent self-guided study days and experience gained in education wellbeing and mainstream mental health services. What you will be doing as our Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner: Based in school settings around Calderdale you will be responsible for delivering three core functions (with supervision and support), alongside completing your university course. Three core functions: Undertake direct assessments and interventions for young people within education. We offer a low-intensity service model, using cognitive behavioural therapy. Support the development of a whole-school or college approach to wellbeing. This can include, but is not limited to, supporting sites to develop and implement mental health and wellbeing policies, development of resources, supporting campaigns and delivering training, assemblies and PHSE curriculum. Provide timely advice and signposting support to education staff. This is designed to support teaching staff to build their skills and confidence in supporting the wellbeing needs of their students/pupils. The post holder will be responsible for their own caseload within their speciality area as an autonomous practitioner. In doing so, they will assess, plan, deliver and evaluate patient centred programmes of care to a specialist level ensuring that they practice within their sphere of competence and knowledge. The post holder will work to professional and regulatory body codes, standards and guidance at all times ensuring that their practice is grounded in evidence based theoretical and practical knowledge. Key Responsibilities 1. Clinical 1.1. Demonstrates a detailed theoretical and practical knowledge of common aetiologies, pathologies, conditions and presentations involving a critical understanding of theories and principles 1.2. Demonstrates innovative and specialist skills to select methods and tools to holistically assess, plan, implement and evaluate in a complex and specialised field of work. 1.3. Demonstrates highly developed physical skills where dexterity and accuracy are important e.g. syringe pumps and infusions, manual treatments 1.4. Makes consistent judgements requiring complex fact analysis, interpretation and comparison of options and ensures clinical reasoning is reflected accurately in case records 1.5. Engages and actively involves the individual and, if appropriate, their family/carer, in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of treatment and/or care by using person-centred techniques to promote a culture of involvement and empowerment 1.6. Works to standards of proficiency identified by their professional and regulatory bodies performing clinical treatments/procedures to a competent standard 1.7. Prioritises their own workload, and that of the wider team, within agreed objectives deciding when to refer to others as appropriate. 1.8. Provides and receives complex, sensitive or contentious information where motivational, persuasive, empathetic, negotiating and reassurance skills are required whilst demonstrating an understanding of barriers to communication 1.9. Approaches each individual with care, compassion and sensitivity ensuring that these values are reflected in all areas of practice including the management of any complaints and compliments. 1.10.
