We are seeking a physician who is board certified/board eligible (BC/BE) in Emergency Medicine (ABEM/AOBEM), BC in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine to staff the Emergency Department (ED) and ensure compliance with Veterans Health Administration guidelines for ED at the Fayetteville VA Medical Center. This will include developing and implementing improved ED processes and business practices. This position primarily involves evening hours, typically between the hours of 7 PM - 7 AM. The Fayetteville VA Medical Center Emergency Department provides care to approximately 31,000 patients per year. Patients seen have a wide range of medical problems, with the exclusion of major Trauma.

The incumbent is responsible for the daily administrative and clinical operations of the ED and reports to the Emergency Department Service (EDS). The incumbent will, as defined by the American Board of Emergency Medicine, admit, evaluate, diagnose, and provide treatment. The incumbent will take part in continuing medical education and quality assurance activities. The highest degree of good judgment, ethical behavior and professional demeanor is always required in the incumbents contact with patients, peers and all other employees.

Must be available for "on call" for clinical coverage during non-clinical contact hours as identified on the published schedule. "On call" is defined as the ability to be on station within one hour. On call ED physician will provide coverage for the primary ED physician if they are unable to work their assigned tour of duty and for contingencies. On call duties are divided among all available providers for the rotation.

• Shifts are subject to change to ensure efficient use of medical center resources and appropriate levels of care are maintained.

The Lead Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA)/Ward Clerk collaborates and communicates with a wide range of medical clinicians across multiple disciplines (e.g., medical doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, clinical pharmacist, and nursing staff) to accomplish team goal setting to ensure medical care to patients is met.

The Lead AMSA/Ward Clerk performs administrative, receptionist, and other duties as assigned for the proper and timely treatment of patients on inpatient wards. They assist with clinic access contingency plans as conflicts with staffing and/or coverage occurs. The Lead AMSA/Ward Clerk may be required to cover in more than one inpatient ward/area. A high degree of tact and diplomacy is required when dealing with veterans.

Pharmacy technicians at this level are nationally certified and can work autonomously using independent judgement to perform a full range of duties.
