Ensure all investigations and test results are checked by the Consultant, or an appropriate member of his/her team. Ensure all known abnormal or urgent results are brought to the attention of the Consultant, or an appropriate member of his/her team, ensuring urgent action is taken as appropriate. Ensure systems are in place to ensure that accurate copies of correspondence, X-rays, pathology and other investigative reports are accurately filed in medical records case notes, following guidelines and protocol. Ensure word processing of all documents relevant to Consultants work, clinical and non-clinical, including transcription of tapes and prioritise workload effectively. Follow the Trusts protocols for typing from the Trusts internal transcribing system Big Hand and dispatching communications to GPs electronically. Ensure that correspondence is despatched in line with the Medical Secretarial Benchmarks and in the interest of patient care. Ensure a general administrative service is provided for the Consultant and his/her team including photocopying, filing, faxing and distribution. To assist in the compilation of any patient, clinic or admission lists, liaising with waiting list/appointment staff where necessary, giving concise instructions regarding preparation and administration of waiting list issues and procedures and appointment requests, cancellations and rescheduling. Liaise with other departments concerning case notes for appointments and admissions, ensuring timely availability of patient X-rays, the results of tests and investigations. Ensure prompt dispatch of case notes from the office. Undertake ordering of stationery for the office/area you are responsible for to the designated staff member responsible for ordering supplies. Take minutes and arrange meetings. Assist in the preparation of teaching materials including presentations/slides, organising teaching sessions and speakers. To use the computerised Integrated Clinical Information System regarding identification of patient, in-patient, out-patient and waiting list data. Process information through established Trust systems and procedures. Participate in audits as required. Provide support with training to any new staff where required, demonstrating duties to new starters. Ensure up to date personal awareness and knowledge of Trust wide issues and directives, applying the knowledge in the workplace, including attending appropriate directorate briefing and meetings.

The Associate Medical Director will be expected to display the Trust values at all times. They will work as part of the collective leadership team which will ensure that effective and safe patient care is delivered in a person-centred manner ensuring that decision making is as close to the patient as possible. The Associate Medical Director will be working within a care group model as part of a collective leadership team (CLT), working to organisational requirements whilst influencing areas of direct operational managerial responsibility and clinical pathways with a proportionally shared accountability and responsibility for the quality delivery of services. Within the team, they will be the senior professional lead for doctors within their service with professional responsibility for standards of medical practice across all inpatient and Community teams. They will also lead on quality and safety developments across services. The Associate Medical Director and the CLT will provide a visible, accessible and authoritative presence in clinical areas upon which service users can rely to ensure that the fundamentals of care are right. The post holder will support the Lead Psychiatrist to provide professional advice on medical matters with responsibility for leading the medical workforce in their specialty or specific area of responsibility, ensuring continuous professional developments and clinical supervision practices and structures are in place and accessible for all doctors. Working closely with the CLT, they will ensure the provision of services within an integrated governance framework that is safe, effective and efficient and maintains standards against a broad range of local, national and statutory requirements and policies. In addition, they will support the Lead Psychiatrist to facilitate all doctors to be adherent with the professional fitness to practice obligations in line with GMC revalidation requirements. Act as the link between the services and the Medical Directorate in relation to specific areas of responsibility including workforce planning and performance management. The Post Holder, with Lead Psychiatrists, will take medical responsibility for attending relevant governance groups within their CLT ensuring there is a consistent approach to high quality, compliant, safe and effective practice. The Post Holder will be responsible for the line management of all medics within their Care Group specialty. They will also support the Lead Psychiatrists in providing professional supervision, guidance, and the completion of job planning. The AMD will participate in meetings for, and jointly sign off, the job plan for Multi-Professional Approved Clinicians. The role will act as a conduit between those responsible for the delivery of medical education in their Care Group and the Associate Director of Medical Education. The post holder will be committed to ensuring the provision of excellence in person centred care that will include the promotion of recovery, social inclusion and normalisation across all areas of psychiatry in the care group. Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the Deputy Medical Director for Quality & Governance (DMD-QG) will lead a number of Trust-wide strategic priorities and quality improvement programmes as determined by the CMO. They will also take the overall medical leadership role in the Trust in relation to Care Quality, including the three key domains of safety, clinical effectiveness and patient experience.

The DMD-QG, along with the DMD for Professional Standards (DMD-PS), will support the CMO in all matters related to medical and dental professional standards.

The DMD-QG will provide medical leadership to the Clinical Risk Manager for serious incidents/matters relating to PSIRF and inquests. They will also be the Named Adult Safeguarding lead for the Trust.

The DMD-QG, along with the DMD for Professional Standards, will deputise for the Chief Medical Officer in his/her absence, including taking the role of Medical Co-ordinator in the event of a Major Incident.

The DMD-QG will support the Chief Medical Officer with the integration of clinical services and processes across North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust (NWAFT).

The DMD-QG will chair committees in relation to his/her role and represent the CMO/Trust at internal and external meetings as required.

The Deputy Medical Director for Quality & Governance will be appointed by the Chief Medical Officer and the Chief Nurse and will be accountable to the Chief Medical Officer for the DMD element of his/her role.

The appointment will be subject to the terms and conditions of the new Consultant Contract. The initial appointment is for 3 years and is subject to a satisfactory annual performance review. The post-holder will receive a formal performance review after the first 6 months and then have annual PDRs undertaken by the Chief Medical Officer; this will be separate from and in addition to their annual appraisal.

The post holder is expected to commit to 5 Programmed Activities within office hours to effectively deliver the DMD-QG role. The Consultant in the chosen speciality role will comprise 5 programmed activities. Upon successful appointment, we will work with you to shape the ideal job plan and review it with you after three months and then annually so you can keep the perfect fit. The Chief Medical Officer is responsible for the review of the job plan in conjunction with the post holder.
