Supervisory Medical Technologists must have advanced knowledge of specialized and complex subject matter extending beyond the duties of test performance. Supervisory MTs have wide latitude for exercising independent judgement. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty), and range of variety, and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
- Plans and schedules on-going work. Set short and/or long term goals for the section and conduct studies on technical and administrative problems, including personnel shortages, organizational structure, new technology, etc.
- Chooses methods for achieving work goals. objectives, and management strategies.
- Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of highly complex test performance.
- Is responsible for monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure acceptable levels of performance.
- Uses advanced computer skills with computer applications to generate work-related information for supervisor.
- Assures corrective action is initiated when test performance deviates from established performance specifications.
- Assures orientation, performance plan. training and competency assessment of staff is completed timely within the established time frame for each.
- Implements and monitors quality management activities.
- Performs the full range of supervisory duties. Recommends appointment, plans and assigns work, gives advice and counsel. and evaluates work of subordinates.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm (schedule may vary based on the needs of the Service)

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66
